i'm looking for a charles retallick 1872 who first went arizonna in 1904 with his wife maggie nee rodda who died in bisbee in 1905 their son was back in cornwall uk in 1911 living with maternal grandparents. could anyone please find out what happened to him he was a miner. thanks clare

There's a passenger list for the Umbria from Liverpool to New York arriving 4 Apr. 1903 that has Charles Retallick, age 31, married, laborer, from England, last residence - Roche, going to Hancock (?), Michigan, never in US before, not going to join any friends or relatives. If that's him, there are manifest markings that seem to indicate he applied for naturalization in or around 1940.

thanks guys I do have charles returning to arizona on the adriatic 1/11/07 I think he was to and fro to the usa most probably to see his son thanks again Clare

In the Reno Evening Gazette from 2 Apr. 1915, in an article with Virginia City in the dateline, it says, "Charles Retallick left last night for Aurora, Nev."
In the Nevada State Journal from 10 Apr. 1936, it says that Virginia City Townsend club No. 1 was organized and has 50 members. Charles Retallick was listed as being on the advisory council.
In the Reno Evening Gazette from 9 Mar. 1942, it says "Charles Retallick, who resided on the Comstock for the last 48 years, died Sunday evening at a local hospital. A resident of Cornwall, England, Mr. Retallick was born November 15, 1870 and came to this country as a youth. Until the time of his illness he was employed in the Comstock mines. He leaves no known relatives. Funeral services will be announced later by the Crosby mortuary in Carson."
Charles was quoted in an article in the Nevada State Journal from 11 Jan. 1938 about a cave-in at the mine. He's listed as a veteran watchman for the Union Consolidated company and a Comstock miner for 40 years.

im not really sure abouth these i do know his wife maggie was buried in Bisbee, Cochise County after that very little his son obviously returned to the uk and later married in helston cornwall and is buried next to his aunt cassie in veryan. thanks for the post i will have to dig a bit deeper clare

:) Charles Retallick was my husbands Great Grandad. Viole G Retallick was Charles' son and when his wife, Margaret Rodda died in childbirth, he sent Viole back to England on a boat in the care of the Captain. We have a family bible given to my husbands dad by the Rodda family and a huge amount of postcards from Margarets sisters. Just wondering your connection to Charles? Do you have any more information on his death as my Father-in-Law would be very interested? Shirley

Hi Shirley, thanks for you reply, I'm sorry I don't have any information on Charles death. My Husband is Charles' wife Maggies great great nephew, Cassie her sister is my husbands great grandmother. I have a fair bit if info on that side of the family and live in Cornwall so let me know if you want to know anything and if your husband is related in any way

Hi Clare,
My Father-in-Law has loads of postcards from Cassandra written to Viole dating back to the early 1900s, they obviously had a very close relationship. We also have 2 numbers which we believe to be grave numbers but no idea where they are located.
We also live in Cornwall, so was wondering if maybe you would like to arrange a meet and show you the postcards (about 150 of them!) and bible?
I am a bit of a novice on family history so any information would be gratefully received! We are going to Veryan on Sunday to try and find the grave that you mentioned. Don't suppose you know where New House, Roche Road is? This address comes up a lot but we can't find where they actually lived.
