I have come across a Caroline Willoway, may be spelled Willaway, who was born in Dover between 1797 and 1799. She moved to the north east where she married William Waddell. Does anyone have any record of her or her parents in the Dover area? Would be very grateful of any info as it is a long way to travel to look up records ;) Thanks

Hello,
I just discovered this sight with Google. Caroline Willoway/Willaway & Dr. William Waddell were my gr-gr-gr-grandparents. I had seen her in one Census as being born in Kent - didn't get the Dover part. I have been challenged finding any Willoways in Kent. The Surname is really scarce in all of UK. If you are interested & don't already have it I have quite a bit of information on Caroline & William forward. Their daughter Louisa Sophia is my connection.
Best Regards,
Sherry Broussard,

I'd be interested in anything you have! I have them in 1841 and 51, with William in 1861. I have Caroline dying in 1863 and William in 1866. William was supposed to have gone to Edinburgh college of surgeons but they have no record of him...may have been lost. There is also something a bit odd with their marriage as William is living as a lodger in 1851 and says he is unmarried in 1861! Caroline states she is a widow in 1851. Caroline was my gr, gr gr grandmother, their daughter Emily had Julia Ellen, who had my grandmother Ethel May.

Not sure if you have this but there appears to be another son who is not on the 1841 with William/Caroline.
Christenings Houghton Le Spring, Durham
Christenings, Parents William/Caroline WADDELL
Charles Barcley WADDELL, 04 January 1824
Caroline Elizabeth WADDELL, 1822 ( no date given)
Extracted records IGI
Death;
Charles Barclay WADDELL
September 1837, Chester le Street, 24 13
( just made into civil reg.!)
Good to see descendants making contact :)
Best of luck with everything
Trish :)

It looks like he deserted her. Search http://books.google.com/books for "caroline the wife of william waddell"

OK, I'm not sure how many people I need to send this information to. Could I get a "show of hands"? I can send it as a file attached to regular email if (off RootsChat) if you are comfortable with that. There is quite a bit. There is also a wonderful family story written by Louisa Sophia's granddaughter. It does say in there that William was a bit of a cad, just as the court proceedings show. The story also states that he was married three times & squandered all three of his wive's money. I haven't seen evidence or proof of that, tho.
Thx for that death info on Charles; I did not have that. I kind of thought he died young as there was no marriage info or Census stuff on him.
Also, would you share what you have as well? And could I pass that on to two of our cousins here in the US who research the Waddell/Willoway/Willaway surname? They are also descendants of Louisa Sophia like I am.
Best wishes,
Sherry
