Title: Winsham marriage
Post by: kevd on Sunday 20 September 09 21:04 BST (UK)
Hi

Can anyone locate the details of a marriage in the parish of Winsham please?

This is the marriage between James (born c.1801 in Winsham) and Mary Wills (born c.1811 in Wayford) and I would expect to take place circa 1830. I'm hoping to find Mary's maiden name, any other details re parents/witnesses would be a bonus.

Thanks!  :)

Kev

Hi Kev

I would imagine they would have got married in Wayford the brides parish. I cant find Wayford parish records anywhere and believe they have not yet been transcribed.
Wayford comes under Crewkerne  and if you go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/crewkernesomerset you can register for free and ask someone there if they will do a look up there.

If you have a lot of relis in Somerset these groups are invaluable the only drawback is you have to register with each one individually. But they are free and they are always willing to  do lookups for you.

Good luck in your search

kind regards

Hi Kev

Ive been told this morning that the Wayford parish records were filmed by the Mormons, the records are from 1704-1900.

If you ring your nearest LDS Family History Centre and order them you can them view them for a small fee

Hope this helps.

kind regards

I can echo leofred's excellent advice about the yahoo groups - there's a lot of them for Somerset and people are very helpful. The link I have for the Crewkerne one is a bit different, so I'm giving it anyway in case the other one doesn't work -

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/crewkerne/

Have you looked on FreeReg at all? A lot of Somerset transcriptions are on there ( http://www.freereg.org.uk ), including Winsham up to 1837 for marriages and a bit later for baptisms and burials. I found baptisms of 3 children for James and Mary on there. No marriage, but then I would agree that Wayford would be more likely. Interestingly, James wasn't baptised there  ::)

Hope this helps
