Hello, I wonder if anyone could give me some advice. I recently had a virus worm its way into my pc. I finally had to have new drivers and I am busy reinstating many things.
My biggest problem is that search as I have, I cannot trace the CD that came with my printer cum photocopier cum scanner, hp 1215. I did find a CD but it was for 1200 and I tried that but it did not work.
I lost all my pictures of course and now need to scan what I have and I did still have many snaps in my camera fortunately.
I guess I need to make sure I remove the download CD that I tried and hunt for a source to connect my hp all in one to my computer.
Any advice anyone is able to give me would be most gratefully received. Ann

This is a link to download your printer driver:

WOW 'Hat, that was soooooooooo fast. Thank you so very much for the URL. I am truly grateful to you for that and I will get cracking on that.
How we take our computers and printers forgranted when they are working well. My PC has been out of action since the end of August and I have been in despair. Then to search for two days for that CD without success was the last straw.
Thank you so much, Ann

I hate giving advice, 'cos I'm no expert, but do yourself a favour and back up your photo's and stuff, in case it happens again. ;) :)

Thanks 'Hat, I have already been in touch with portable hard drive supplier and have been promised a discount too. Ann

In theory you do not need a CD at all. Microsoft will supply all the drivers you need to scan and print.
Just click on Scanners and Cameras in Control Panel and you should see your scanner listed (if the power is turned on). Right click the scanner name and select the scanner wizard.
Most hardware devices do not actually require an installation CD any more. Most of what comes on a CD is some extra or trial programs such as photoshop style programs and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. Either Microsoft already include the driver(s) in their vast database or it/they can be downloaded from the Internet.

Thanks, I will try that as I went to the website you gave but the only two options they finally gave me for download was USA or Canada.
I will try your way tomorrow. Been up since 7 am trying to retrieve and transfer from one pc to my main one and without success until it dawned on me that I could use my main pc to log into the different ISP and transfer all the data that way... well, Emails, not worked out how to transfer the files on dial up and a stupid service that cuts me off as soon as I get in! 'Hat, I went into control panel which now is nothing like it was before I had new drivers after my crash. I got the wizard and he wized about and then said .....
Cannot Install this hardware. The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software (I never offerd software option).
Click back if you have installation media such as a CD-ROM or if you know the location of rthe software.
That wizard is a great help! LOL, Ann

if no joy
are you running vista? if so try the driver for Photosmart 7200
To install the driver use the following steps:
Click the ‘Start’ Icon, and select ‘Control Panel’ in the start menu.
Once the Control Panel window opens, double-click the ‘Printers’ icon.
In the ‘Printers’ window, click the ‘Add a printer’ icon/link in the top menu bar.
In the ‘Add Printer’ dialog window, select ‘Local Printer’ and ‘Next’.
When asked to ‘Choose a Printer Port’, select ‘Use an existing port’ and click on the ‘USB001 (virtual printer port for USB)’ item in the list. Then click Next.
On the following page, select ‘HP’ or ‘Hewlett Packard’ in the left pane, and find ‘Photosmart 7200′ in the list on the right.
IMPORTANT: Plug in the Printer now, if it’s not already plugged in, and switch it on.
Click ‘next’ and then print a test page

Thank you so much Les_Looking. I do not have Vista as yet, still on Windows XP 2 Home Edition. I do have scanner etc plugged in all the time. I will copy your instructions and have a go tomorrow. Thank you so much.
I did find the 1200 series of hp CD ROM but although it appeared to be down loading and said it was done, I just cannot use the XYZ printer as I go to My Pictures as I always did but I cannot get "Get Pictures from Scanner" anymore.
Thank you once again, Ann

Ann with the epson printers you nearly always have to have them switched off/unplugged until it tells
you to switch on so would think the HP is similar, maybe it is not properly loading the drivers/software hence everything not working,
hopefully the below will work ;)
(above that should be lol)

Les, well I had the blue screen and shut down yesterday after posting to you.
I do have a personal Email address for the Dell computer I.T. technician and hopefully he will help me as I appear to be having teething problems after the new drivers were downloaded.
I will tell him about the blue screen shut down (3 times now since new drivers) and the reluctance of Hewlett Packard software to engage with my Dell Windows XP Home Edition.
My husband has nothing to do with computers and sits and scowls each time I have a long session with Dell Computers as their form of servicing is to have an hour long or two telling me what to do! LOL as you have guessed, my pc is in the living room!
Thank you so much. I just feel shattered right now after two weeks getting my pc back up and running, however, must admit to going on a short holiday in that time too! LOL, Ann

A long time ago I suggested that you go into Control Panel and click on Scanners and Cameras.
Was you Scanner/Printer listed?
You mentioned someone called 'Hat and then stated that the Hardware Wizard could not install your hardware. Waht I was talking about was the Scanner Wizard rather than the Hardware Wizard.
Another thing I suggest you do is go to the Windows Update website and see if there are any additional hardware items available. Click on Start >> Windows Update.
DO NOT select the EXPRESS update. Select the second option CUSTOM. This option has extra bits that are not essential to your computer but some of the hardware extras are sort of essential. See if there are any for your printer/scanner.

Thanks, I did go to Control Panel and found scanner printer there and it said "ready".
A windows XP service pack and softward update were both auto installed on my pc when I switched on today. Not sure what they did but they too nearly half an hour to install.
I will tell you what Control Panel > Printers and other Hardware > View Installed Printers and fax Printers > PDF-XChange 3.0 > it has a tick beside it and very feint "Ready".
However, from "My Pictures" I can no longer get "Get Pictures from Scanner" etc.
Sorry to sound so dim headed but I am almost 76 years old! he he Ann

Hi Ann
If you right click you scanner in Scanners and Cameras and select
Get Picture Using Scanner Wizard
are you able to scan OK?
If you want to know what updates Windows installed then go to Add/Remove programs in Control Panel. Make sure you put a tick where it says Show Updates in the top right hand area of the window.

So sorry, not been able to return to this problem but will soon.
Yes, I went and saw that my 3 in 1 scanner cum printer cum copier was listed.
Yes, I followed the wizard instructions and after ages, and inserting the CE ROM I found, it still does not work.
I will do as you say as soon as I have a moment.
Thanks, Ann

Thank you for your help. I did visit the Hp website and attempted to down load for my particular scanner cum copier cum printer. It got my scanner and copier working ONLY.
I then contacted HP on the site and they told me what to do ... four times over, I tried but with no better success. I got moved up the ladder of seriority and finally was given another alternative and it finally got my printer to work too. All this took a few days to do as the download took 45 minutes and then I had to do other things.
Thank you for helping me, it is appreciated. Ann
