There has been an update to the Cheshire Parish Register Project site:
http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/
Bunbury and Poynton have been loaded and are online today.
Good luck to those of you with ancestors in those areas!
Jean
PS. The site contains full transcriptions of the parish registers up to c1870. Included at the moment are:
Alderley
Bromborough
Bunbury
Burton
Chester St John
Chester St Mary
Davenham
Heswall
Lymm
Nantwich
Neston
Poynton
Tilston

It will be nice once the database is accessible, I have ancestors both at Bunbury and Poynton.
Ever hopeful that amongst the next parishes they choose to do are: -
Sandbach
Middlewich
Wrenbury
Acton (by Nantwich)
Church Hulme (Holmes Chapel)
Barthomley
Swettenham
Tattenhall
Astbury
-
Database is not online at the moment, at least Firefox can't find the address.

Link not working for me,
Abiam

Help please to decipher the additional information on the Cheshire Parish Register
The record I am looking at Peter Holland born 1801 parish code Davn, it gives his parents names as John and Mary Holland but under additional information state F Parents William & Nancy Holland of Lordship.
Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong area of the forum
Mary

Hi Domingo,
It means than William and Nancy Holland were the parents of the (father) John Holland.
-
Thank you for your reply, I did try to find the explanation from the code help page but got lost.
Could you please explain what the lordship means?
I am not sure that this is the Peter Holland I am looking for, but always happy to learn something new.
Mary

Hi Domingo,
Lordship is part of a place name: for example, Lordship of Nantwich(fictitious), it's just they didn't have enough room in the data field to put the whole place name in. To find out where it is you would need tp examine the register or a copy of it.
-
Thank you.
I am going to the record office in Chester next week, I will try to have a look at it.
Mary
-
Hi Mary,
The Lordship in question is probably Rudheath.

Stephen,
Thank you

I am unable to decide what these codes mean.
WHTGCO1400794.30310
parish Code WHTG
residence WHTG
Please can anyone help?
Carolyn.
-
Hi Carolyn,
WHTG is Whitegate. Check the glossary for an explanation of all the codes and abbreviations.
Stephen
-
many thanks for this. I only checked the codes, not the glossary
Carolyn.
-
You don't need to worry about these WHTGCO1400794.30310 these are not relevant to anyone looking up information on the registers, they are probably an index number like you have for books that those who are compilng the data use to find a particular entry in the database.

I've found a mistake. Mary Ravenscroft born 8030929, baptised 8030925, Davenham so she was baptised before she was born. From another source I believe she was born August
The keycode is DAVNC02501173.10235
I'd love to notify the compilers of the database, but there is no contact address, I just hope they read this.
-
I wanted to write to them also to congratulate them on this project. How I wish it expand and expand to cover all counties!!!!

The CPRdb is offlinr again, hopefully this means more parish registers are being uploaded. :D

The Cheshire Parish registers are only for Cheshire,Have you read the overview & Progress. The site depends on a very big team and lots of volunteers.Plus its free :) its strange there is no contact information. It would be nice to drop them a line and let them know how much there work is appreciated.

I agree. it's a huge project, and great to use.
I doubt very much whether there would be any funding available to do a similar project in Lancashire though. More's the pity.

I too would like to echo Celia's comments on the Cheshire Parish Record Project, we are so fortunate in this county not only for this database but the ground breaking work done on the Cheshire Bmd site, the Wills online and the Tithe maps.
I hope one of the Rootschatters can pass on our appreciation for the Parish Record Project.

As useful as this database is, there do however appear to be omissions. I've come across a number of parish register entries which aren't reflected in the database so if you can't find what you're looking for in the database don't assume that it doesn't exist.
Jay :)
-
I'll second what Jay said, there do appear to be omissions so the parish registers are by no means complete.

Do you know that some entries have an * before them and they only appear if you start you search with an *
There are 5541 entries like this - it seems to be when there is a query about the spelling of a name.

This is very helpful. Thank you

Hi,
I've been using the following website for Lancashire. I used to be able to search the entire county but for some reason I can now only search an individual parish. Still a good tool though. http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/indexp.html
