Title: Samuel / Servetus Rydings b 1860
Post by: tomskibabes on Monday 14 September 09 15:49 BST (UK)
Hi

I'm looking into the Rydings / Ridings family born in Lancashire but at the time of his death he was living at The Big House, South Quay, Douglas, he was a donkey man on the Ellan Vannin at the time it sank in 1909, his death was registered in 1910 after his body was found.

Any information on his family would be helpful, I can only find his mother with her maiden name as Ridings also.

Any other information on the family would be greatfully appreciated as my daughter is wanting to use Samuel as part of a school project

Thankyou
Tomskibabes

Thanks Jen,

These do seem the right family, Servetus's name does alter on all the census but thats understandable,  We know he was known as Samuel after 1901, any idea of where I can confirm his mothers details?

Thanks again

I'm struggling with 1871 but here he is in 1861. He is Samuel this time so here's hoping it's the right one!

RG9/2841/104/8

Smethurst Street, Heap

Ridings:

Jesse, 56, Cotton Spinner,
Rachel, 57,         "
Mary, un, 27, Weaver
Josiah, 15, Piecer
Samuel, 8
Joseph, 18, mar, Spinner
Mary Ann, d-i-l, 18 Reeler
Samuel, g/son 1
All born Heywood

So it looks as if Samuel could be the son of the very young (18) married Joseph and Mary Ann.

And a birth registration so you could send for his birth certificate and be sure of his parents.

Mar 1860, Bury 8c/382
Servetus Ridings

Hi

Servetus Ridings was born out of wedlock, todate I am still not sure who is mother is, if you have a name would you mind if you could let me know.  The family with
John Ridings b 1817, Clitheroe, Lancashire
Betty b 1918, Heap, Heywood
 they were the parents
Susannah b 1842, Sarah b 1846, Betty b 1850, John born 1852, Mark b 1854, Silvester 1859, Joseph b 1859, Anne b 1861.

Servetus was married to Mary Ann Hays b 1861 from Heywood. Servitus's name does seem to change.

Hope that is some help.
