I am wondering if someone could guide me in identifying the nine children of Stephen and Phillippa Chesterfield of Gorran, Cornwall. All of their children were born before the 1837 date of official birth registration. I do know that Phillippa Chesterfield died in 1836 and was buried in St Gorran.
Thank you in advance,

Thanks so much for your help. Trish, your post is the answer I was going to give regarding how I know there were 9 children. Anna, your response provides proof for 8 of 9 children. Went on to the National Archives Website this morning but couldn't find any more information than we already have. Can someone suggest any other 'stones' I could turn over to try and find the ninth child? :)

Why only 8 of 9? Do you mean because the first Timothy is said to have died? (In fact, since there are two called James and two called Elizabeth there may well have been at least 2 deaths before Timothy's).

I do know that the two 'James' listed are in fact reference to the same person. As per a letter I received quite a while ago from a fellow Chesterfield family genealogist, it indicated that James was in fact baptised with his brother John on Apr 26, 1824 at the parish church but a note under his name states that he was born Oct 5, 1818. This is the reason why I say 8 of 9 children. Hope this makes sense.

Oh, I see - that does make sense.
Interesting that none of the listed daughters is called Philippa!

It is interesting that they made such an effort to have both names of Elizabeth and Timothy as well. I have not officially confirmed yet whether or not the first Elizabeth actually died although I would think it'd be safe to assume this (ie. I have not yet found the official death registration).
I also know that this son James did name one of his daughters Phillippa (born 1850).

Just a quick update. Was able to confirm all nine children of Stephen and Philippa Chesterfield through other researchers of this family. There was in fact a daughter named Philippa born April 5 1822. Just for some reason, no one can find her baptism.
Thanks for all the help.
