Hi
I am looking for a marriage between a William H Davis and Mary Ann Bateman, I think they were married in either Jersey or Alderney ( first 2 children born in Alderney) in about 1857. Mary ann was born in Jersey, William in Devon. Does anyone know anything that might help me.
Many thanks

Hi sheena and welcome to rootschat.
It might be worthwhile checking freebmd to see if they were married in England . If they were then you could get their marriage cert and find their fathers' names.
Do you know what William's occupation was that took him to Alderney? Was he in the Army?
just a few ideas for starters...

Thanks for your reply.
Tried looking for the marriage in the uk without success, which made me think perhaps it was Jersey or Alderney. Cant find William before he was married because, as you can imagine, with a name like William Davis it is very difficult to pin him down as there are so many of them, so at the moment that family line is at a halt
I'll just have to keep hoping something turns up.
Many thanks anyway

Hi Sheena
Have you seen this 1851 entry for a possible entry for William in Yealmpton:
William Davis, 15, servant b. Plymstock, Devon
HO107; Piece: 1877; Folio: 195; Page: 14
William and family are in Yealmpton by 1871 and he shows a birth place of Plymstock.

There are a number of family trees on Ancestry which shows Mary Ann's parents as Joshua Bateman and mother as Frances (surname not showing) - you may have this already ;) Nothing on William H's parents though :-\
