hi can anyone look up the parish records for a spouse of edith emily chaundy of headington oxford
she was married in headington oxford in june 1895 ref 3a 1037. unable to locate who she married
any help would be appreciated
thanks maelys :)
-
cant you see from the 1901 census who she married ?
You would of course need her DoB & Pob, but will hopefully see her with one of the males on that Index page you quote ... :)
Added: Looking at FreeBMD I see there may be a problem !
-
It's not going to be that easy I'm afraid. The reference for her marriage is Headington 3a page 1037- on Free BMD that is clearly incorrect as all the others on that page married in Eton. However looking at the GRO image it DOES say 1037 - so not sure what you can do apart from email them or give them a ring.
Will see if I can narrow things down at all.

Aha ;)
Page 1307 is missing a girl so maybe that's what it should say.
The two men are Thomas Kerry and William Edwin Bowell.
Can you find them in 1901 now and see if either fit?
Carol
Added,
Edith E Bowell age 28 on the 1901 at RG13/1378 Folio 157 Page 27

It's not going to be that easy I'm afraid.
thats why I added the footnote - been there & done that !
decided to leave it to you Ladies -- you've all done very well ;)
-
What a team Rosie ;D
Love Sherlock ;)
-
They are still together in 1911- with quite a few more additions :)
-
I wonder whether its worth putting a post it on freebmd ???
I think I might
Rosie
-
Rosie - I have ;)
I've put a post it note to that effect.
Isn't it a shame we can't do anything about the GRO indexes when we find such errors(and there's plenty of them!)

Hi Carol thanks for the info in the 1901 census she was called edith emily tomkins, and was listed as head of the house in Islington London.
Her date of birth jan to mar 1873in headington oxford
the 1901 census is the only one available after her marriage in 1895
regards maelys
:)
-
If her surname was Tomkins in 1901 -then she isn't the girl who married William Bowell in 1895 in Headington?
I'm confused ???
Carol
-
It appears that the family who are headed by Edith Emily Tomkins in 1901 in Islington are in West Derby in 1911.
Dad looks to be John William age 39,Edith is now 38.
Carol
Added- John William Tomkins married Edith Emily Carter in St George Hanover Sq in Dec 1/4 of 1893 ref 1a page 902.

It's not going to be that easy I'm afraid. ..................... 8) :P
-
Come on Maelys hurry up and log on ;D
Can't wait to see if the Edith Chaundy is correct in which case in 1895 she became a Bowell ;)
Or the 1901 Edith Tomkins is right in which case she used to be a Carter ;)
Especially after all our sleuthing yesterday lol !

Hi Maelys
Please put us straight ...Edith Emily Tomkins who is in Islington (born Oxford) Do you have her marriage to a Tomkins as I see that is the family you are researching, or are you trying to work out a possible match for her using freebmd births and the only option that popped us was Edith Emily Chaundy. ???
Rosie
Hi Carol didn't look at your post before I did this ::)
-
hi carol thanks for the info but edith emily chaundy was married to a tomkins her maiden name was chaundy we cannot find her husband on any records so i am baffled as to where he has gone :)
-
John William Tomkins married Edith Emily Carter in St George Hanover Sq in Dec 1/4 of 1893 ref 1a page 902.
HI Maelys
Sorry to say she was not- John Tomkins married Edith Emily Carter as above (1893).
Edith Emily Chaundy married William Bowell in 1895.
Is it the Tomkins family you are following- if so if you give us the more recent names and dates we will find them for you.Is one of their children your ancestor?
Later I will attempt to find both girls births.........off to babysit soon ;D
Unless anyone else can find them whilst I'm gone.

a childs birth cert would confirm Edith Emily's maiden name ......

Hello Sue and a warm welcome to Rootschat.
I'm sure Maelys will be very pleased to be in touch.....although I think it's the 'other' Edith Emily she's descended from.
Thanks for sharing that info with us ;)
