Hi, I'm Jon, born in Rainham Kent (though nowhere near there now), and researching my family history.
Particularly researching the surnames Attwood (hollingbourne/stockbury areas), Sym (anywhere), Hales (kent), Collins (London/Medway areas), Brown/Goldfinch/reis (hong kong/china/portugal), Dyer (london/gloucestershire) and Cheeseman (kent).
would love to share info with anyone else who might be researching these names.

Hi Jon,
http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/
You will find the Medway parish registers on line here, it is a bit confusing to start with, but once you get the hang of it and learn to judge how to find the years you are interested in, it is a great site.
Good luck

Hi Jon
Where in Kent do your Cheesman's come from ?
I have a connection via my paternal Great Grandmother who came from the Sittingbourne ish area of Kent.

Hi Jon
I wonder if your Goldfinch family are from Kent? I have that surname in my family tree going back to Hoath.

thanks for all your replies, it's great to feel welcome!
re the Cheesemans, they came from the Boxley and Burham areas, I don't know whether these villages might have been in the Sittingbourne registration district at some point?
the Goldfinch connection has proved to be a false trail, my great grandfather used the name as an alias when he deserted from the army, I managed to find his army records and the family name is actually Brown, so I doubt we have a connection there.

Hi Jon
My Great grandmother (Cheesman) married a Furminger, my Furminger line has early origins in Boxley circa 17thC.
I have found a largish Cheeseman group around Sheppy.
If you have a look at my web site (Link is under my profile) you can email me and I will send you what I have on Cheeseman's in Kent.

Hi Jon
Thanks for the reply. Two of Job Goldfinch ( born 1823 at Hoath, family emigrated to Corry Pennsylvanie) daughters married Browns, Hester b 1869 married Giles, Nancy b 1872 married Andrew, but they all have connections to the USA. Strange that your great grandfather should choose such an unusual surname.
Happy hunting
Heather

I'm researching Attwood name to find descendants of Gilbert Attwood. He married Doris Vera Heath about 1916 in dartford, Kent. She was from Swanscombe. Any connection ?
