Hi
Waterford City Library in Lady Lane have now got copies of Catholic church records for Waterford City and County on microfilm. Most date from around 1800 until about 1880. I was able to find my great great grandfather's baptism record for 1836 in Kilrossanty and so get the names of my great great great grandparents.
They mainly have baptism and some marriages.
The three areas I looked at were:
Kilrossanty
Baptism records 4th July 1822 until 4th August 1858 and 9th January 1859 to 27th December 1880.
Marriage records from 16th January 1859 to 8th September 1880
Abbeyside
Baptism records 06th July 1828 to 26th March 1876 and 21st March 1842 to 29th December 1880
Marriage records 24th July 1828 to 6th February 1842 and 26th May 1842 to 18th November 1880
Dungarvan
Baptism
17th February 1787 to 27th April 1798
03rd March 1811 to 17th May 1823
27th July 1823 to 30th April 1830
01st May 1830 to 26th July 1877
01st September 1877 to 28th December 1828
Marriages
14th May 1809 to 29th November 1828
08th January 1829 to 01st September 1877
24th September 1877 to 12th November 1880.
There are a few weeks missing here and there. Some are difficult to read as they are faded and in Latin but most are fairly good.
I can't promise that I will be able to check details for anyone but if you want me to find out what records they have for a particular church in Waterford I can do that

Regards, Mike.
-
Hi Mike and Liz
I will check next time I am down there and see if they have records for St Mary's. Do you know what area of Waterford they lived in as that will indicate the church were they may have been baptised, married or had the funeral , some people used other churches but were buried in St Mary's graveyard. As I said the death records are scarce.

Hi
Have you had any experience of St Anne's church at Fews, Kilmacthomas? I'm looking for Margaret Lannon born 1866 or her father John, or Peter Gallagher whom she married at Fews in 1874. I'm coming to Waterford next month to look.
Many thanks.

Hi there and many thanks for your kind offer. I am looking in the area of Kilduane Monksland. sorry I do not know the church. Mary KInsella born about 1847 Father William, Mother Catherine.no further info :)

Hi,
I am looking for my grandfather and his family and believe that their church was the Church of the Sacred Heart in Dunhill. They lived at Ballyleen near Kill and I think that my grandfather's step brothers are buried there.
I am looking for Martin Whelan (Phelan) born around 1902 to Michael Whelan (Phelan) and Johanna Power.
I cannot find any trace of the family on the 1911 census (after waiting so long for it) and am now stuck so any information you may find would be very gratefully received!
In the mean time I will keep on trying to find them in 1911 and wait as patiently as I can for the 1901 in the hope of inding them there!
Thanks,
Claire

Hi,
I am looking for any info on my g,g,grandfather Robert Flynn born 1841/5 Waterford.
Robert's parents were Robert and Mary ?(b 1811),his sisters were Margaret born 1839 and Joanna born 1849.
Robert snr was a shoemaker.
In Griffiths Valuation enumeration for Co,Waterford 1846--1854 there is a Robert Flynn residing at Kilduane, civil parish of Monkstown.
I think there could be a good chance of this being my g,g,g,grandfather as although Flynn is a very common name, there does'nt seem to be many Roberts around.
I guess I'm hoping that some very kind soul will help by looking at the records---hope that's not to cheeky!!.
Regards,
MM

I had a look at Slaters Directory of 1856 for Waterford City and County, and there was no Robert Flynn at the address you gave.
-
Thanks very much for looking.

Paul,
I am looking for someone to help with family research in Waterford. I believe some of my family still lived in Ballingowan in 1917. My 2nd great grand uncle left a portion of his estate to Thomas and his brother and sister in 1917 and they sent his share to Ballingowan, Stradbally, Waterford, Ireland.
I found Thomas Colbert and his family in the 1911 census in the Fox's Castle, Ballingowan area. Thomas' mother, Bridget nee Shea or O'Shea, was the daughter of John Shea and Johanna or Mary nee Kane Shea. I believe she married John Colbert and they had at least three children, Patrick, Mary and Thomas before they left for the US.
I am hoping to find more information for John & Johanna Shea by connecting Thomas's records, and any other members of their family. John & Johanna had at least five children, John, Johanna, Phillip, Bridget and Thomas.
Would you be interested in researching for me? I am willing to pay you for your time and expenses if you can let me know ahead of time what your fees will be. If you prefer to correspond thru my email address, feel free. Thank you in advance, Therese

Hello Paul, the Fitzgerald family I'm looking for found them on the 1911 Waterford City Census at 8 Model Lane, Urban 3. From what I gather this is St. John's Within Parish area. The family names are:
Charles Fitzgerald, b 1850, wife Jane, b 1853
2 sons: William Fitzgerald b 1883 and Stephen Fitzgerald b 1895
* Stephen Fitzgerald later married Julia Corr and lived on Barracks Street area, where the family remained until the 1950's.
Any findings on the family will be much appreciated, thank you kindly, Karen

Hi Therese,
I tried to send this to you by private message but it wouldn't go. Sorry I can't research your tree for you but if I can help in pointing you in the right direct please let me know.
Hi
I looked at Waterford County Library's website as they have good records of death registrar and graves. I found a Thomas Colbert from Ballingown who died on 01/07/1901 from"effects of drink and exposure to night air" it says he was a bachelor and aged 67. I hope this link works
http://locdat.waterfordcountylibrary.ie/ipac20/ipac.jsp?session=B256215198Q06.15821&profile=death&uri=link=3100018~!31079~!3100001~!3100002&aspect=basic&menu=search&ri=7&source=~!lhist&term=Colbert%2C+Thomas&index=DTHNAMB#focus
If not try www.locdat.waterfordcountylibrary.ie
I also found a John Shea who died on 9/12/1868 who was a tailor aged 56 and the informant of his death was Johanna Shea from Dungarvan
Could these be connected to you ?
Regards
Paul

I have managed to get a copy of what records the library now holds so if anyone wants the dates of the records for the parishes of Waterford let me know.
Again I am sorry I cannot look up any records for people but I have only limited time in the library each month but at least you will know what records they have if you visit Waterford or someone else can look them up for you.
Paul
-
Hi Peter! Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday, had trouble with the website!
Thanks for taking the time to look at the records for me. I am thinking the Thomas Colbert is probably a relative, and possibly John & Johanna Shea.
I will try out the link and see what I can find.
Do you know if the parishes themselves are fairly helpful in looking for records, if I have approximate dates? I did find a link to the Waterford sites and may just contact someone there to do the research. That would probably be my best bet!
Thanks again for your help! Good luck with your research! Therese

That is a shame I was hoping to see where my family lived. Maybe when I get to Waterford I will be able to trace a photo of the area or one of the other addresses I have.
You are kind for checking this for me, thank you so much.
-
The best place to go to find a photograph would be Waterford Archives, at high Street, in the city, they have a large collection of old photographs.
-
Thank you so much this will be so useful the more I find out before I go the easier it will be, maybe that was the wrong thing to say I don't think it will be easy at all, but any help before hand is fantastic so a great big thank you
your a star.

Hi Paul,
I have just received a copy of my g g grandparents marriage certificate. I now know they were married on 1st June 1884 in St Johns Church in Waterford. Unfortunately I can't make out where my g g grandmother is from. I know from the 1901 Census that she was from Co Kilkenny. On the marriage cert it looks like 'Man_ _'. WPold you have any idea what that could be?
I think my next stop would be the parish records, so I would be delighted if you could tell me if they have records for St John for 1884 in Waterford Library.
Thanks in advance,
-
hi PaulPeter
I am assuming you live in Waterford or nearby. You will probably know a lot more about it than I do as I don't live in Ireland.
I have a lookup posted on this section for waterford but no luck as yet.
I know the brothers I'm looking for were from Waterford city in the latter part of the 1700's. I was hoping that would narrow down the possibilities. Do you know how many catholic churches were around at that time in that area. I am hoping it was only one . Let me know if you can and do the baptism records go back that far? ???

Shame I haven't got a trip to Ireland for a while. I live in Canada and could do with looking up a few records.
Mainly Ballybricken Church, then Tramore and the Garrarus and Westown area.
I am not too keen on microfiches either, then send my eyes loopy lol.
Do you know if they carry out research at the library?
-
I have a copy of gravestone inscriptions for Ballybricken , Waterford, what names from their are you interested in?

Hi Paul
Just a couple of questions if you don't mind, my family came from Ballymacart and I have a few certificates for them from Dungarven, registrar district Ringville would it be possible to find Baptism and marriages under Dungarven, or would they be under Ringville. And what is the distance between the two places.

Paul,
On the off chance there are any records the names I am looking for are McCarthy and Fitzgerald.
-
Have you looked at the Waterford County Council web site? click on Library services, and in the Family history section you will find a lot of records that might be of help to you.

Hi
Yes I have checked this out, I've found a few deaths but nothing else.

I am looking for the date of marriage for Michael Bowe and Margaret Walsh around 1830.
It will be on page 46 of the Kill parish records.Would it be possible for someone to check.
Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Hi Paul Peter.
Are you still able to look up records from Waterford? I'm looking for the marriage certificate of my great-great grandparents Thomas Perrin (24 - DOB approx. 1948) and Catherine (Kate) Terry (22 - DOB approx. 1950) at the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Abbeyside (by Dungaravan) in County Waterford. I have the civil record of the marriage from October 6, 1872, but I'm looking for something that would show the names of their parents so that I can go back even further.
Thanks!

Ref. St. Patrick's Parish (RC)Waterford Marriage Registers; The National Library of Ireland seem not to have a Marriage Register for St. Patrick's Church 1800 to 1827. Anyone know if said register actually exists anymore seeing as NLI haven't got it up online?

It would appear the years you want don’t exist.

Thanks for the prompt reply and the look-up address. I guessed as much really, concerning that particular register. Thanks again.

The RootsIreland site indicates that they have the records you want.
Now there are two possibilities.
1) The records exist - NLI simply did not film them. I personally know this has happened in several cases. Or
2). The records actually don't exist, and RootsIreland has neglected to indicate a gap in their coverage. I know that has also happened in other cases!
I have no idea which is the case here.

Thanks for that......to be continued......!

Hi there, I am the great granddaughter of Mary (Mollie) Quinn. I can tell you quite a bit, just wondered what your connection is to the family? I’m currently extensively researching my family and have found lots of stuff!
Let me know!
