Hi
I am hopeful that someone may be able to assist me with any information regarding my great grandmother Mary Carroll b co kerry in 1849 her parents were Daniel Carroll and Bridget O'flaherty I believe that Daniel was a blacksmith and or farmer
Mary arrived in Melbourne Australia 1867 on the passenger ship white star
I need any information for Mary prior to her leaving Ireland and or any information re her parents Daniel Carroll and Bridget o'flaherty.
fingers crossed as I seem to have come to a brick wall in my search at this point
cheers tralee3

Hi,
Is there any possibility of this?
I know birth date is wrong but you said 1849, this 1869 and in Kerry. Bridget is mothers name but last name doesn't match what you have. Thought I'd ask?
regards
Vicky

Hello Tralee3.
I have come across some information for you.
Baptism in Causeway Parish, Co. Kerry of:
Mary Carroll (17th. February 1844)
Father: Daniel Carroll.
Mother: Bridget Flaherty.
Baptism in Causeway Parish, Co. Kerry of:
John Carroll (18th. May 1862).
Father: Daniel Carroll.
Mother: Bridget Flaherty.
This would mean that Mary Carroll was 23 years of age when she went to Australia.
There are still in Ballyduff Village Carrols and their forebears were Blacksmiths.
In Causeway there is a Carroll who has just celebrated his 100th Birthday.
The Casueway man was also a Blacksmith and is a cousin of the Carrolls from Ballyduff.
If you load Google earth you will easily find the villages of Causeway and Ballyduff.
I am pretty certain that the Carrolls in Causeway and Ballyduff are your distant relatives.
Don't get confused - as the parishes of Causeway/Ballyduff is unified and called the parish of Killury.
We Irish can thank the British for all the confusion of our placenames.
An added difficulty is caused by the translations of placenames from the Irish language.
Regards and Good Luck,
