Seeking information on Emily "Elsie" Oliver in the form of marriage and death info. Have scoured a variety of sources without much luck.
Elsie was christened at St Paul in Darlington on 14 OCT 1874, the daughter of James Clapham and Elizabeth Oliver. In 1881 they lived at 18 North Road in Darlington. Many of the family are interred at West Darlington Cemetery.
This question is prompted by the finding of a Christmas gift (a book) that was given to her by Vicar Edmond Hutchinson of St Paul in 1885 and the remote possibility a family member might be interested in it.

It's a very long shot, but there's a marriage at Holy Trinity, Darlington, in 1939 of Elsie Oliver to Kenneth Chamberlain.

Does anyone have any information about Emily's father James Clapham Oliver? I discovered that in 1869 William Thomas Pearson(my great grandfather) and James Clapham Oliver, of 42 and 43, Market-place, Bishop Auckland, in the county of Durham, were General Drapers and Clothiers, trading together as Pearson and Company.

I wonder if there wad another James Clapham Oliver??? As Emily's father wasn't a draper????

It does seem strange I agree, but James Clapham Oliver is such an unusual name. My thoughts are that perhaps James did the accounting for Pearson & Co, or maybe he invested some money in the company as he wasn't a draper. Next spring I'm planning to visit the north of England to do some research on Pearson & Co, maybe this will unravel the myster.
Kind Regards Ruth

I am also researching James Clapham Oliver. He was my 2X great Grandfather. His parents were Thomas and Elizabeth (nee Knox). I have not been able to locate his baptism record (bn abt 1831 Newcastle). Do you have more information? Do you have access to all his children's baptism records?

correction to previous message. Mother was Elizabeth Clapham. Elizabeth Knox was James Clapham Oliver's wife. Sorry for the confusion.

Hello all, if you Google James Clapham Oliver, you will see that there is an entry in the London Gazette dated April 3, 1891 wherein he is the executor for the estate of a Richard Ranson; the entire notice from the Gazette can be accessed through Google.....Pat
