I'm looking for information on MAJOR E H BALL.
My husbands grandfather was a gamekeeper on one of his estates in 1911.
They were in Kiladysert Clare.
I would like to know more about the man he worked for.
Thank you Pam

maybe the clare library could help ?

Thanks i'l give it a try

Had a look but no luck .
Anywhere else i can look please
-
You could look up Major Ball in 1911 census to get an idea of where he was born, what size house he had, who was in the household, etc.
Also try a search engine like Google with his name and the townland/name of estare or house.

Thanks i will give that a go to see if i come up with anything

Forgot to post link to 1911 census in case you haven't seen it-

I think i might have found him with your help.
went into 1911 census and found a W E Ball age 26 single born Walshall 1885.A driver 4th battery RFA 4th Battery Royal Field Artillary in Rawelpindi India .
Any idea where Walsall is ?
-
Sorry its WALSHALL
-
I can't find W E Ball in 1911 Irish census. There are (I think) several places called Walsall in England but don't know of any in Ireland. It's unlikely that a Co. Clare landowner would be a driver in Army so I'm wondering if you've found the correct person.
-
If he was a Major he could have lived in England and had property in Ireland ?
I did find a MajorW H Ball in a Gentlemens club in London once but i can't remember where i found it .
But like you say in 1911 this one is not listed as a Major .
-
If he was an Army officer with an estate in Ireland he could certainly lived/been stationed outside Ireland. However, occupation (driver) and initials (WE instead of EH) don't match profile of person you are looking for here. Where did the name of Major come from?
-
I wonder could this be him - http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Clare/Ennis_Rural/Rosslevan/352708/
a William Hawkins Ball age 37, justice of the peace visiting with a household in Rosslevan near Ennis.

Hi to both of you .
I found Major W H Ball on the Clare library of landowners he was said to be at Kildare ST Club.
Yes Shane the one you found could be him i'm not disscounting anything. Him being a Major he could have gone on to be a JP.But would'nt he use the title of Major i think they usualy did as it makes you sound more important

If you read through that other thread you will see that the surname was BALL and it was one of your posts that said BELL.
