Title: DELMONT born HULL

Please could someone look up for me......
WILLIAM JOSEPH DELMONT.   Born about 1840 to 1846 in HULL.
He went to sea at age 9, and became a ship captain. Finished up in Australia owning a ketch.
(His middle name could have been George or Joseph.

There are very few DELMONT/DELMONTE births recorded in England around these dates, and almost all are in the Whitechapel area.  I can't see a birth registration on Free BMD for a William DELMONT anywhere in England, and there's no obvious match on the 1851 census.

It looks as though he may have either changed his name at some point, or fibbed about his birthplace...  ???
