Michael FitzGerald married Fanny BELL, 29 Jan 1859, By Rev. D. Bruce, at Auckland.
Michael FitzGerald worked as a Surveyor in Hawkes Bay and lived in Havelock North.
In various newspapers births I have found three children born in "Ahuriri". This was the common name for Hawkes Bay.
Caroline in 1860
Nora C. 1861
Brenda Fanny 19 Jan 1864.
Fanny Bell is the daughter of Frederick Augustus Bell (1799-1874). He was a Justice of Peace in Auckland. Her mother was Caroline Cordell (1804-1843)
Has anyone information about this family? What happened to the family?

What happened to the family?
Hi
Have you checked the NZ BDM indexes (online), for marriages of the daughters ... deaths of the parents etc. ?
(Perhaps this family left New Zealand ? )

"Has anyone information about this family? What happened to the family?"
Ah-ha, Frederick Augustus Bell had ten children and countless descendants, many of whom appear in our not-for-publication family tree.
Are you related? FAB was actually my 2nd great-great-uncle, one of the 17 children of William Bell and Annie Young

Hi babu
No, I'm not related at all - was just attempting to assist the poster KaeDee back in September 2009. KaeDee has been active on RootsChat as recently as this November, so maybe if you don't get a reply here, you could try sending a personal message ?

Babu ... I've just done some more checking of updated online records, and as I'd previously suspected the FITZGERALD family moved to Australia.
There's a marriage notice for daughter Brenda Fanny Cordell FITZGERALD to William Montagu COWARD in the "Sydney Morning Herald" - 7 March 1884 - page 12.
... d/o M. FITZGERALD, late of Napier, NZ

Hi babu
I can see on ancestry.com that someone has entered (scant) details in a family tree for Michael FITZGERALD - Fanny BELL. Their daughters names and years of their births are given but there no information pertaining to them, beyond that.
Perhaps try "googling" to see if there is a more recent tree or updates. (Some ancestry trees are now viewable at the free site, MUNDIA. )

and oops ... forgot to mention that tree has listed the death of Fanny FITZGERALD as >
" 2nd May 1909 at Homehurst, NSW "

Just had a notice that this topic woke up!
I'm not related to the FITZGERALD family. The FITZGERALD family were unaware of this brother called Michael. Over time historians have confused Michael FITZGERALD, the surveyor, with a much younger person with the same name.

A big thank you to Babu and Lucy 2
See if you wait long enough on Rootschat you get your answers :)
I now have the four children of Micheal FitzGerald and Fanny BELL - Caroline, Nora, Brenda, Fanny.
The family moved from Napier, NZ to NSW, Australia.
I can now confirm that Michael FitzGerald is the younger brother of Thomas Henry FitzGerald and Dr John Patrick FitzGerald and Emily FitzGerald.
NOW... I can move onto Dorothea (Dora) Frances FitzGerald who married Peter BURKE (Napier and Otane postmaster) and lived next door to Thomas, Michael and Emily in Ahuriri, Napier.
Is she a sister?
Burkes Peerage has her as title Lady!

I am a descendant of T H FitzGerald and was wondering what proof you have for Michael FitzGerald being the younger brother of T H ?
-
Hi Tweeck,
This interweb thing is amazing.... I searched for FitzGerald family several years ago for a project that's now complete.
Look at the first land sales in Ahuriri and TH has bought his land either side of Michael. Michael was his apprentice and signs the paperwork. Other survey documents mention them as brothers.
Dublin, Ireland, records - Michael birth has same parents as TH.
Separating Hawkes Bay land from the Wellington Province was extremely controversial. TH relatives have been historical blurred, then recreated into some unimportant person of the same name. Several respected historians have picked up those notes and republished them.
I'll try to send a person note
Happy Christmas
