:) hi everyone been away for a while have been to the uk and been to the records centre, found that james and susan married at the cathedral in norwich 1716, found some new info that he was 32 and she was 28, also that she gives her parish as rackheath and james gives his parish as pockthorpe, there bondsman was edward bulwer.
james was a twisterer, and they were both single at the time of marriage.
this however is how far we go, we checked the parish records for susan in rackheath and she was not born there, also the parish records for james in pockthorpe st james and he wasnt born there ???
so where do we go from here? we need to find the family of james, who was his mother and father, we are now back home so i cant check anymore records. can anyone help me please ??? :)

Hello there,
I've recently made a connection to this particular James Paston. I'm trying to find his birth and that is going to take a bit of time as it wouldn't surprise me if he came from the wilds of Norfolk rather than a Norwich born.
If you want to get in touch to discuss our Paston connection please feel free.

Hi
I have been researching the Taylor and Larke family of Great Yarmouth and have found that Paston was the surname of my grandmother's mother who was a Taylor. Most of the Taylors and Larks were fishermen.
I have discovered that a James Paston was born in 1795, maried to Ann also born in 1795 and in the 1851 census lived in Goal Street, The Nelson Ward. I would be pleased to exc hange information with you if that is what you want. Best wishes Cleaver

Am also very interested in correspondence on the Pastons.
My family have confirmed direct roots back to the Paston family in Yarmouth c1815 and from there have tracked the family back to the Norwich area in earlier times. It would appear we are of "Waterman" stock with links to weavers and musicians.
I am alas stuck at about 1730 with choices of two James both who seem to have married a Susan or Susanah, one being the above mentioned Susan who might be nee GILLINGS.
Would love to correspond with anyone with information and exchange what I have (or that I know is being collated) or even just to renew long lost family links!

I will share some information for any other reserachers here. I have identified THREE family groups involving JAMES PASTON c1730.
1) James Paston - Susan(anah) Gillings
2) James Paston - Mary
3) James Paston - Susanah Langley - this James is a Doctor and they ultimately ended up near Harleston, Norfolk.
I have also located a James Paston and a Susanah out at Necton (Neeton) Norfolk though whether this is (1) or (3) above I haven't been able to work.
I have identified also two James Pastons born in 1730 & 1731. One was to James-Mary and the other to a James-Susanah. I have traced my own family line back to a James Paston who according to marriage records was born in 1729. It is possible that he is not either the 1730 or 1731 James.
If anyone has anything they could add it would very much appreciated

:) James Paston b.1684 married Martha Love b.1688 in 1709 in Pockthorpe.
3.children Mary.b1709 James.b1711.William.b1715 Martha and William
both die in 1715. James then marries Susannah Gillings. The James who
marries Mary is James and Martha Loves son.
Mary marries Rob Cocksedge in Tombland 13th Dec 1730. Mary was
mentioned in James will.

St James with Pockthorpe, Norfolkm
MARTHA Paston, Wife of James, buried 11 Sept 1716
SUSANNA Paston, Wife of James, buried 07 Sept 1733
ELIZABETH, Daug of James Susannah buried 14 Mar 1726/27
ELIZABETH, Daug of James/Susannah, buried 18 Aug 1730
(FreeREG)
Now on FreeREG the James that Married Susan GILLINGS, 25 Feb 1716/17, The Cathedral, Norwich is listed as a Bachelor!

So some inconsistency here.

Funnily enough I was just going to restart my search! Thanks for the information folks. So this takes us firmly back into the times of the celebrated Pastons. All we need to find out now is who the parents of the elder James is!
