Hello gwen,
Welcome to Rootschat :)
Would you like to give us some more details? Could you please tell us which members of the family you need help with, names and dates of birth, and whether you already have census and birth, marriage and death records
It saves time searching if we know what information you already have and what exactly you'd like to know
Kind regards
Barbara

From the Mid-Kent marriages site there is the following which might fit in somewhere.
12 June 1783 Peter Puxty m Elizabeth Harrison Bethersden Kent
-
Hi Thanks for your reply have you details of any Puxtys prior to 1794 in Kent? thank you for your help, Gwen
-
There is nothing else on that site I am afraid. Could be they were one of those families that because they lived on the border between Kent & Sussex kept moving between them.

Hi there
I was just browsing for new posts to do with the Puxty's and saw your reference to the A2A Removal Order of Elizabeth Puxty. I've just gone ahead and made enquiries about this as this is my great x4 grandmother!!
Thanks for posting about that.
I may have an answer re the Puxtys further back also - I'm just checking my tree info.

Hi
Barbara
Thanks

Hi Nicole
To be honest I seem to have gone back to Samuel Puxty born about 1740 who married Frances Hubbard (Bodium 1768) and the Betsy or Elizabeth Chantler 1789. I've been looking to see if I did get back further but thats where I drew a dead end when I last investigated (I've had the summer off and have just started getting back into it again).
Samuel and Elizabeth Chantler had at least 5 children with Peter Puxty born 1790 is who I am descended from (he married Nancy Ann probably about 1811 ish but haven't found the record to confirm that one yet). The James Puxty that Judy Puxty (my Great x4 grandmothers sister) married I'm not too sure where he has descended from as yet seeing as it has been suggested that his father is a Samuel Puxty. The family appear to have had no qualms of marrying within family (they intermixed quite a bit with the Weddles and my great grandfathers mother and step father are cousins)
Are you on Ancestry at all?

I must admit that I am wondering if this James just hasn't got a baptism record thats been transcribed yet or one at all? I've just trawled through the 1841 census as well as the IGI etc to try match up the records for the Ticehurst and the Benenden families and the James Puxty (b1811) in Benenden with wife Mary is probably the James Puxty and Ann Shoobridge one as opposed to having married Judith Puxty. Looking at the Ticehurst Puxtys Samuel Puxty (of Samuel and Sarah) is deceased (d1834) but one Son William (b1815) has carried on the shoe maker trade.
Seeing as Samuel (1790) and Peter Puxty (1791?) are brothers (parents Samuel and Betty/ Elizabeth) then Judith and James were probably cousins - the usual thing with these families!
As for the Benenden James Puxty - parents James Puxty (b1786ish) and Ann Shoobridge - I haven't seen anything yet that links the family to the Ticehurst ones yet. In reality I suppose there is a chance though given the proximity of the localities. Just gotta find it!! Not easy when most things rely on online as not easy to get to the archive centres when work, family and life happen!!

Barbara
James Puxty (b1811) in Benenden with wife Mary is James Puxty and Ann Shoobridge son!!!!

Hi Barbara.
I am a new member and have been tracing my family history for years and decided (as it is raining) to try and do a bit more.
By chance I found this site and am amazed that others are tracing the same people. In fact Samuel and Elizabeth are my GGG Grandparents also. We must be about the same age. Perhaps we exchange notes sometimes. My grandmother was Susie Alice Puxty and I have all the descendants from her on my tree.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards, Landy

I know this thread is old and I don't expect a response but I thought I would ask if I could see any of these family trees. I am a Puxty by birth though my mother remarried so I have a new name now.
My mother and my mothers brother both married Puxty's (brother and sister also) so I am wondering if intermarrying is a genetic predisposition in the Puxty line. I am the son of Lesley Puxty and Denise Hawkins, my uncle Peter Hawkins married my fathers sister Susan Puxty.
Thanks for any help on my family tree building.
James
