Can anyone assist me..I seem to have got stuck..
Percy William Keates married Alice Talbot 1916 Gateshead10a.1621 I have followed the trail back for Alice but can not find Percy, birth or census, he must have been born around 1896 I guess.
Have found 5 children...following link down son of same name.
Any help would be gratefully received

you could get the marr cert that would tell you his age and fathers name and occupation.

Hi Polstead Lady,
I can see only one birth registration in England for Percy William Keates:
Jun 1891 Pancras
Parents seem to be Charles and Jannet. A quick free 1911 census index search suggests that he was in the miltary in Hampshire in 1911.
To find out if he can be your man you'd have to purchase the marriage cert to find out his age and father's details. (sorry for echo, wozzle!)

Within Lanchester ( Co Durham) Registration District the death of a Percy W Keates was registered in Sept Qtr 1931. This Percy was aged 44 yrs at death.
In March Qtr 1922 with Gateshead RD, a Job Keates death, aged 79, was registered, but this Wiltshire-born seemed to have no connection with Percy.
Percy/Alice last child registered 1928 Gateshead.
The Surname Profiler web site shows the surname Keates to be very strongly rooted in Potteries and Oxfordshire, with no showing in the north of England !
