Thank you for the assistance Hibee, I have the advantage of having the whole will and comparing letters with other examples, I am pretty sure the first capital letter is 'S' then I get a vowel 'e' 'o' or 'u' then a 'c'? then 'k'? ending in 'er'? COULD THE NAME BE John Sucker. Regards Renaud  ;D

Hi Renaud

I've had a better look.

The second letter seems to be "E".  Compare with the second letter in the word "bequeath" (centre of bottom row).

The final letter I have as "M".  Compare with final letter in "him" (centre of middle row).

I think that's her not him, the cousin seems to be called "Mrs Cornwall" which would make the end of John's name ER - could it be PORTER

Wouldn't Secker also be a possibility?

Roger

Could it be the John Secker mentioned in:

A long shot but the date looks about right

I agree with Roger, I read it as Secker.  The first letter  threw me and I did wonder if it was a P; however P's are pretty clear as in Mr Pugh at the end of the sample
