Hi sancti, stuck for a death cert. for john riddell ( or riddle ) born around 1740 married barbara tennant 1764.
You wouldn't know if there might be a gravestone worth looking at in Straven, I'm in Bathgate about an hour away.  Cheers Andy

Hi andy

There's a death record for a John Riddell, in Avondale (Strathaven) in 1771, on ScotlandsPeople.

You'll be fortunate to find a gravestone, though.  Very few could afford them.

Hi Hibee,
Thanks for your responce, been researching my tree for a few years but I'm new to this site
and I,m a computer dummy so I'm still trying to get the hang of it -- hope this finds you.
I've spent a few pounds on scotlands people, not grudged, and learned a lot, from there
I found my g.g.g.grandfather William Riddell was born 1782, his fathers name was John
but obviously dosn't tie in with your John. I have aJohn died in Straven 1781 march so touch
and go if he's the father also he was an innkeeper, and it looks like up to my grandfather
they were all shoemakers. I also found in the same year 1781 another John Riddell but it states
"john riddell , shoemaker, child " so I'm assuming this was perhaps a brother of my
g.g.g.g/father. I'm not trying to commit you to my tree Hibee, it was just nice to get your
note and thought I'd let you know where I am up to now. On a more personal note I'm
from Bathgate does Hibee stand for what most this neck of the woods imagine,
so if you need an excuse not to answer I'm a died in the wool " teddy bear ".
                                                                                                     cheers Andy

When and where did William Riddell die?

Hi Andy

The John Riddell I posted is not "one of mine".  I do have one or two in the tree.  They were tinsmiths.

Andrew was born in Glasgow, 1808, and died in Falkirk, 1884.  His father was a John Riddell.

I wish you Sunshine on Leith.

Hibee
