I have just found an indication that my wife's Chubb line may have come from Dowlish Wake. Does anyone out there have any connections with them or any info that may help us, please.

Do you have possible name/s and DOB/s
Cheers,

Hi Trish. Thanks for your reply. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I had failed to update my email address on RootsChat, so did not get a notification of you response.
I am trying to track down a William Chubb. He would have been born around 1730. He had a bastardy order made against him in Broadwinsor in Dorset. This shows his home parish as Dowlish Wake in Somerset.
He subsequently married Mary Rendell in Beaminster in Dorset in 1756.
He was shown as a yeoman in the bastardy order.
Thanks again for your response,
Brian

Hi Brian,
At least you have the posting now.
I am sorry I cannot help with records back that far.
I would also not rule out he was born in Dorset and his Parish at the time the child was born was Somerset.
There are a few possible births 1725-1735 on the IGI born Devon.
Hopefully someone else may come along to help you.
Trish :)

Hi Trish. Thanks for that. We don't have enough info to go on.
I did find an entry in the Somerset Record Office catalogue, which would indicate that the William Chubb who was the father of Elizabeth Swaffield may be different from the one who married Mary Rendell. There was a William Chubb in Dowlish Wake in 1769, whereas our one looks as though he moved to Beaminster in Dorset. I will have to get a copy of the Somerset records in due course to see if they contain any more info to assist.
The Somerset Records Office entry reads:
Ref No D\P\cri.st.t/2/1/1
Title Baptisms, Marriages, Burials.
Description (many pages removed) [On microfiche].
Also contains part copy of the will of William Chubb of Dowlish Wake, made 13 Mar 1769, and also part of a will made in 1769 by an unidentified man [possibly by the same William Chubb], who was the father of Susannah the wife of James Hull of South Perrott and the brother of Robert Chubb of Knowle St Giles.

There were a lot of CHUBBs in Chardstock, which is not too far from Dowlish Wake.

Hi. Thanks for that. I will post more info once I get the chance to look at the wills in the Somerset Records Office.

Hi Brian,
Did you ever get a copy of the part of the Will of William Chubb of Dowlish. I have a copy if you are interested.

Hi Jennifer. No, I don't have a copy yet. The genealogy got put on the back burner because of family bereavements etc.
I would love a copy. My email address is (*)
Bye for now and thanks for the offer,
Brian
