Title: Marriage at Western Cape Archives question
Post by: shella_n on Thursday 03 September 09 14:02 BST (UK)
Hello

ive been very lucky to find the reference for my ancestors marriage as follows:

Marriages Performed by the resident magistrate, Kimberley
Originals at Western Cape Achives: HANC 1/1/16/1/2

No 101
1 July 1886
Jospeh Henry Quilliam, bachelor, carpenter, 33 years of Beaconsfield
Marie Langen, spinter, 27 years of Beaconsfield

What I would like to know is using this information can I get a certificate or would the record show me any other information - or is the above the best that I can expect to find - I particularly want to to know Josephs parents names and his date of birth.

Thank you

Michelle

Have you applied for his death notice? This should give his parents names.

Hello

Yes, I have the Death Notice but the names arent given.  I also have her death notice and the parents names are given as Joseph and Carolina from Breslau, Germany.  I have trying to find something on that but I understand that German records are really bad so thought I might have better luck with Joseph as his death notice says he was born on Isle of Man. So if I can just confirm who his parents were i'll be able to move substantially forward I hope.

Thanks

On the 1861 Isle of man census there is a Joseph with dad thomas and mum ann aged 9 years old. Does this help?

Hi

Thanks for that.  Yes, I have seen that one but need to substantiate whether its the right one or not There are also a few other that it could be that I have seen in the census.

Thanks for your help though  :)
