Title: Army discharge documents
Post by: turtle on Wednesday 02 September 09 10:26 BST (UK)
Hello

I am interested in searching for Army Discharge documents or any military records for my Gt Gt grandfather private Henry Burke who served with the 50th Regiment between 1860 and 1880 ( approx. ) I have a regimental number 3530 , and believe he may have served in the Maori wars in New Zealand 1864 - 1866 , I am in New Zealand and can't go into the National Archives in Kew , is there any way of accessing military records online ??
He was born in Essex, about 1838, married at Aldershot in 1872, and died in Surrey in 1894, I would like to check that the regimental number is for the right man !
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Dean :) :)

Hi Dean

Findmypast are scanning surviving records for men discharged before 1914 - http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/news/stories/212.htm

Due for release by 2011.
