I found those two on the 1936 electoral rolls living in Booval. James is a draughtsman and Archd is a Clerk. There is a John also in Booval, who is a printer. (Booval and Wynnum are some distance apart - Booval is Ipswich west of Brisbane and Wynnum is east of Brisbane on the bay - I wonder if John retired to the seaside? ;))
Also found these immigrating to Brisbane:
John Headrige [sic] 25
Janet (Mrs) Headrige 29
Jane Headrige 3
arriving in Brisbane on the Wakool 24 Dec 1903
Also Archd Headridge age 25 arriving on the Kaikoura 24 Sept 1911 - wonder if he's a rellie?

angusg,
If you haven't already done so, you can search google maps for the Wynnum street address - houses are numbered and I shouldn't imagine those numbers would have changed since the 60's, so you can see where he lived. Quite suburban but nor far from the water. ;)
Good find Kris. Lots of Greenhills ... :D

Thank you Thank you ALL very much
for the quick and speedy response.
We have been pondering John and family fates for a long time
ever since a relative gave me the undated and non specific newspaper
article.
How does one checkout the death of John and his wife?
also the obvious Australian marriages of off springs?
and off course the ultimate a live relative cointact.
-
http://www.whitepages.com.au/wp/busSearch.jhtml
this is a link to the Australian White pages, there are only 2 Headridges in Australia, perhaps you could contact them?
Qld deaths are only one line till 1929 and on micro fishe lookup after that till 1964 at a library or family history society.

Hi,
I am sending this link.
It is one of a few references found on the 'the major search engine' which is about this person who I think may possibly be the living relative you would like to contact!
and off course the ultimate a live relative cointact. angusg

angusg,
I can check for Headridge deaths to 1964 at the Archives next time I go but not sure when that will be, perhaps next week, as it's been on my "to do" list for some time.
However if John was still bowling in about 1961 when that article appeared in the paper, he may well have died after 1964. :-\
He's not listed on the Brisbane City Council cemeteries index - I don't know anything about likely cemeteries in the Wynnum area.

John Headridge
died 16 August 1961
father Archibald
mother Jean Johnston
Janet Lindsay Headridge
died 10 Nov 1931
father James Greenhill
mother Jane Gordon
There are LOTS of Greenhills on the bmd fiche, only a couple of Headridges.
This looks like one of yours too:
Jane Gordon Greenhill = Percival Stafford
13 Oct 1909
Also this immigration:
Headridge Archd age 25 ship Kaikoura arr 24 Sept 1911 IMM/125 p 248 film Z1966
I looked at the film - not much info - he was amongst a huge group of Railway Workers - looked like the ship was full of them.
Hope that helps a little. ;)
-
Very Much oblidged to you.
Is the jane Headridge+ Stafford a mariage?
I have not as yet identified who archibald headridge was.
He is not a brother to John becauise he was a joiner
in Edinburgh lived and died there. 1874 gto 1954.
However the fact that he was a Railway worker is intriguing.
Will see if I can figure out who he was.
Thanks agasin.

Hi Angus,
Good luck with sorting it all out. ;) Archibald looks like a relative doesn't he? Cousin? :-\
Yes, Jane Headridge married Percy.
-
Are you interested in relatives of John's father, Archibald Headridge?
I have extensive records of the Headridge Family here in Scotland and would be happy to share info.
John Headridge Crombie
-
Hi and good morning.
Yes I am interested. I have done quite a bit of research myself
on the Archibald Headridges family, mostly the folks that you can only
get information from at Register House Edinburgh.
I know where Archibald and his first wife are buried. I have nothing back beyond that.
My wifes mother was the youngest of four daughters of Andrew HEADRIDGE who
died at Reston in 1920 and is buried in Dunfermline. I have a photo of the MI.
in 1905 he married Jane Ainslie Guthrie at Moray Place, Kelty. Her father Charles
originally mine engine keeper had a Post office and telegraph office a barbers shop,
and possibly a fish shop at Moray Place near the cross roads.
I have copies of Births deaths Marriages and Census. As a matter of fact I am still entering details
into my PAF programme from my June visit to Edinburgh.
How do you fit into the family lexicon?
-
Archibald Headridge's mother, Agnes, was a sister to my GGGrandfather Peter Headridge.
