Hi i am looking for the Tyrrell family on the 1841 census but am struggling to find them. John Tyrrell born 1780 Aynho, Northants, wife Mary born 1803 Horsham, Sussex, children John born 1828, Brighton, George Walter born 1830 Brighton and Emma born 1835 also Brighton. On the 1851 census they are living in Brighton so they should be there in 1841.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks Julie

They have been transcribed as Tryrell.
HO107/1121/9 Brighthelmstone.
Do you need details or can you find it yourself?

Thanks both of you. No wonder i couldn't find them! Someone these spellings are crazy! I had a Hetherington transcribed as Tytherington once and Tyrrell has been Tynell which was slightly easier to find but not a lot!

The secret is to not put in any surname, then scroll down the list that comes up to see what might fit!

Exactly what I did. It does seem to be the best method for finding those more reluctant ancestors.
But in this case, it wasn't just wrongly transcribed, the original has been written Tryrell. So the enumerator wasn't too hot on spelling! ;D

I saw that too, and wasnt the son spelt Gorge?

He was. Maybe the man was just having a bad day! ;D

We have to also take into consideration that the families themselves may not be able to spell their own names if they couldn't read and write. Mind you it's not difficult to spell George!
