Title: Ballymacward, Derriaghy
Post by: Knoxy on Sunday 30 August 09 13:41 BST (UK)
Hi
I was wondering if there was anyone could help me here.  I have found out that my great grandfather William Evans and my great grandmother Mary Frances Scott came from Ballymacward Farms,  Derriaghy.  I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about these farms and also the Evans from Derriaghy as well.   ??? ???

Knoxy,
I noticed that your ancestors married in 1914. I do not know what land holdings were like then but in 1862 there were 3 families of Scotts renting small farms in Ballymacward Lower and one Scott renting a small farm in Ballymacward Upper. This was the normal pattern of land holdings throughout Ireland at that time.
I could not find any Evans families in Ballymacward in 1862 bur there were three in the parish of Derryaghy:-
Richard in Ballycollin townland, William in Tornagrough townland and Thomas in Slievenacloy townland.

Regards

I recollect seeing the Evans name, perhaps married to a daughter of Richard Scott Ballymacward. They lived at the Brown Moss.
