Title: Royal Army Medical Corps 1942-1946
Post by: Kate Annie on Friday 28 August 09 20:24 BST (UK)
Hi All
Anyone know how I might go about finding information on my Uncle Joseph Murphy who served in the RAMC in the Orkneys (about 1942) and in India around 1942-1946. I have no army number for him and only know the dates of service from his son. He came from Spennymoor in County Durham and returned there in 1947.
Thanks
Kate Annie

Hi there

I just received my Grandfather's service records today.  He was in the RAMC from 1941-1946, firstly in Shetland and ended up involved in the D-Day landings.

I got my records from the VeteransUK website, by writing to the address on there.  You need to contact

Army Personnel Centre
MS Support Division
Parliamentary and Disclosures Branch
Historial Disclocures Section
Mail Point 555
Kentigern House
65 Brown Street
Glasgow
G2 8EX

But really, without the service number of your Uncle you might find it difficult as they tend not to be able to do searches without that, and it is a costly venture - £30 to find and send the records, which is non-refundable.

Hope that helps a bit anyway,
cavey

Thanks Cavey
I might see if my cousin would like to go halves with me to pay for a search.

I've done a bit of a "mod edit" on the title....RAMC is a Corps a bit too close to my heart!  ;) ;D

I'll have a dig through my bits to see if I can find which unit was in the Orkneys in 1942, and thence went out east.
