Can anyone help me with research on Leonard (Horace) Garside who was born in 1893/4 in Birmingham, England. I know he died in Australia in 1980. I have found a Leonard Garside on a passenger list on 14 April 1911 from London to Fremantle but I am not sure if it is him.
He had 2 marriages - one to a Doris ?? and one to an Amy ?? both presumably in Australia. I believe there were no children from either marriage.
Can anyone help with moe details of the marriages and more details on his death.
Many thanks.

There is a burial record in Perth WA, but perhaps it is the Leonard GARSIDE you found on the passenger list.

Online death registrations only extend to 1978 in New South Wales. However there are two death notices in the Sydney Morning Herald. There is a facility to request a copy of the notices on the website. Copies are emailed to you by volunteers

You will find Doris Clara Garside in Macquarie Park but Leonard is not buried there.

There is no memorial inscription recorded for Doris, so there would not be a headstone or plaque.

Hello
Thanks for quick response. I've had a look at the websites you suggest. Most likely the death is the 15/1/1981 in Sydney as this fits in with the little info. I have. On the B/m/d/ I found a Doris Jane Garside who died 22/10/1957 aged 51 at Prince Henry Hospital, so this is a possible for the Doris too.
I know he remarried after Doris' death to an AMY ?? but can't find any more on this yet. He headed off to Oz at the age of 18 leaving all the rest of his family behind - I wish I could ask him why.
Thanks for your help so far - any other info. much appreciated.
Regards

Hi Sue,
I do not think DORIS JANE .... died 1957 is a likely candidate.
If you look back through the information given, it is clear that DORIS CLARA WINIFRED is living with your man in 1930 folllowing their marriage in 1929 and she clearly died in 1972.
Doing some searching for DORIS JANE'S other life events revealed nothing at all to me to connect her to your man. Perhaps others will pursue this more extensively.
When you say
I know he remarried after Doris' death to an AMY ??
What evidence do you have? :) He was a very old man then !

GARSIDE Doris Jane 13 Woodstock Street, Botany HD
GARSIDE William 13 Woodstock Street, Botany Motor driver
so definitely not Doris Clara Winifred wife of Leonard Horace GARSIDE.
Perhaps read through the information that has been posted on the thread. We have given you the death information. I am wondering why you feel there has to be another Doris.
I am also wondering about ?wife Amy. If you request the death notice from the Ryerson Index you may find more information. I have exhausted my resources for information about your couple. Up to you now.

You could contact Pinegrove Crematorium to see if Amy is buried with Horace Leonard. Hopefully the Privacy Act won't prevent them from giving information.

Many thanks to you all. We didn't know anything about him being a Grenadier Guard so I will follow this up. I have sent an e.mail to Pinegrove to request information about Amy.

Trying to find Horace Leonard Garside's entry to Australia. I thought I had found him on a passenger list for 1911 but his military record seems to indicate he may have gone after WW1 as he received a medal in 1920. You have already identified him in Queensland in 1925. I've looked at other passenger lists to no avail - perhaps he worked his way. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sue Garside :)
