Title: Years and uniforms please.
Post by: missjayniee on Friday 28 August 09 19:02 BST (UK)
Hi All

I've been given some photos and wondering if anyone can date these uniforms and maybe tell me which regiments they belong to please. Thanks for taking a look.

Is that all the uniform detail?
No caps/headgear for example?

Hello

1. WW1 era other rank. Looks like economy issue tunic- general service button-very difficult to narrow down.

2. c1890's Regimental quarter master in the Royal Medical Army Corps.

David

Any more on no 1?

Is the second button from the top different from the others?
The second button looks similar to Royal Artillery "Ubique"
 Cap badge?

Thanks James its all very interesting its a shame the photos aren't any clearer but hopefully if I can get some ideas of uniforms and years it will help me work out who the people are.  I received these photos from a lady in Australia through doing my genealogy so I don't have originals only scans thats why I haven't put faces on as there not my photos but I do believe they are people from my husbands family. Jayne,

Just to let you know the 2nd photograph is that of a volunteer, rather than a regular army, senior N.C.O.  Given the 'Drum' above the inverted chervons I think he might be a Drum-Major, rather than a RQMS as suggested by David.  If the photograph pre-dates 1898 then he would be in the Medical Staff Corps, rather than the R.A.M.C.
