Does anyone know anything about convents in the 1850's in the Halesowen area. My distant relative was an unmarried mother and appears to be in a convent in the 1851 census Rowley regis with her 1 year old son. Would he have a normal birth certificate? are there any records to be found of his birth?
Please help....

Hiya Fiona
If you want to post some details we can have a look but I'm pretty sure that his birth would have been registered in the normal way

Hiya Fiona
She isnt in a convent. If you look at the image it says Inmate (havent the foggiest why it says this ) first cousin
I think the reference you need for Thomas is Dudley 2/4 1849 18 332
I know it says he is 1 on the census but he actually maybe nearer 2 depending on when his birthday fell
