Title: richardson/rutter or armstrong
Post by: barney 2500 on Tuesday 25 August 09 07:46 BST (UK)
hi everybody

i've just start doing my new daughter in laws family and already hit a puzzle

i have found birth for her grandfather and his brother and sisters in wigan under the mothers maiden name of armstrong

her mother spoke to her father and he says that his mothers name was jane ann rutter  and she was married to thomas henry richardson in bishop auckland durham.

i have found a marriage between a thomas henry richardson and jane a.r. armstrong in APR/MAU/JUN 1920 VOL 10A Page 604 for him and page 303 for her. but no marriage between a rutter and a richardson

i was wondering if anybody who was in the durham area could find out if the R was rutter

i'm waiting to hear back from daughter in laws mother about certificates of her fathers

so i was just wondering mean time if anybody could help

thankyou andy

Hi

I notice there was a Jane Ann R Armstrong born 1898 in Auckland 10a 237 Q1. If we could chase that back we may find that Rutter was actually a surname of an ancestor of hers.

Hi Andy

Ok I will see what I can find. If any of the names you posted are still alive would you delete them as we are not allowed to post names of those still alive. I have taken note of them. Thanks.

On the 1911 census (you need to pay to see the image) if you do a full person search in Durham with Elijah as the other person in the Rutter household it brings up 12 people. Including Jane Ann age 13.

Jane Ann was registered Jane A R Armstrong from birth as above. It would be interesting to see what date in this first quarter she was born compared to the date Elijah and Eliza were married. I suspect Ann was born slightly before they wed.

There are no Jane Ann Rutter's registered within the correct time scale for your Jane Ann :)

Hi Andy :)

I am intrigued as to where your information is from to know that both were registered in March rather than sometime within the first quarter which covers Jan, Feb and March.
