Title: Fraser- Kirkhill Inverness
Post by: ele on Saturday 22 August 09 14:08 BST (UK)
Any connections to anyone.. a bit rough at this point but I am slowly pulling it together-wanting to suprise Gran at Xmas with her family history, good luck to me with a name like Fraser!

Thomas Fraser b. Strathglass Inverness c1823
wife, Helen Fraser Nee Fraser  then a Janet Fraser nee McDonald maybe b. Kitartlity Inverness 1837.

Hugh b. Kirkhill 1853
Christina 1855.
William 1859.
James 1859-1859.
Mary 1861.
Alexander 7th March 1863-my line. married K(C)atherine McCulloch from Dores.
Donald 1865 married Margaret ended up in Liverpool England.
Thomas 1869/70.
Jessie 1883 (looks like Janet and Thomas daughter)
Annie 1887 (maybe Janet and Thomas daughter).

They lived at Englishton Muir Kirkhill Inverness. I know there was a couple of other Frasers living also at Englishton Muir-more than likely connect.

Helen Frasers Mum must  have been a Christina Fraser. She was on the 1871 census with Thomas as Mother In Law and Thomas was Widowed.

Think thats it. Ele

Hi Ele

There are a number of trees on Ancestry for Thomas and Helen. The information is a guide which is good to use as such and then you can verify.

This is the 1851 entry that is showing for Helen - everyone showing as born in Kirkhill except Christina Snr.:

William Fraser 56, Crofter (3 Acres)
Christina Fraser 53, b. Urquhart, Inverness Shire
Alexander Fraser 31
Margaret Fraser 29
Helen Fraser 23
Christina Fraser 10

Address: Englishton Moor, Kirkhill

Helen's death is showing as having been in 1869 in Kirkhill (last son Thomas born 13 MAR 1869 Kirkhill)

Daughter Christina (b. 1855) is showing as having married a Rollin Thomas Waller (b. 20 November 1834. No date for the marriage but must have been after 1881 given Christina is still at home with family for the 1881 census.

Son Hugh (b. c. 1853) is showing as having married an Olivia Trail Watson (1867-1948) on 13 July 1891, death on 19 September 1926 - Ross & Cromarty (Redcastle, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland, Gardener).

Son William (b. 1857) is showing as having married a Jessie Mclean on 29 Nov 1878 in Kirkhill. 11 children show for them born between 1879 - 1907. Census entries in Scotland up to 1901 and a move at some point to Canada where his death shows, 4 April 1933 in Carleton, Ontario, Canada.

Surprisingly, nothing more on Thomas Snr.

Something to work from..... :)

USA death details for Christina b. 1855 who looks to have married Rollin Waller (I thought this name didn't sound very Scottish  ::)

WALLER, Christina (Fraser)    88y 9m 10d (  ;) pretty precise given her birth shows on 05 MAR 1855 in Kirkhill), 15 Dec 1935 m. Rollin Waller, and
WALLER, Rollin T., 31 May 1928
http://genealogytrails.com/ill/whiteside/cemgrovehillw-z.html

This looks to be Rollin T Waller on the 1880 US census - the only one with such a name, quite an achievement given the population!:

Rollin T. WALLER, 44, farm hand, b. IL
Martha J. WALLER, wife, 42, b. VT
Address:   Durand, Winnebago, Illinois

The 1910 US census shows:

Rollin T Waller, 75, retired b. Virginia Illinois
Christina Waller, 59, b. Scots Gaelic
Census place: Durand, Winnebago, IL

Rollin and Christina look to have been married 11 years, no children.

The big health warning on these details comes from the 1900 US census, where Christina F Waller shows as born in Nova Scotia Canada  ???

Thanks for that.

Christina (Christy) after husband William died must have moved in with Thomas and Helen Fraser then Helen died but Christina stayed living with Thomas at Englishton Muir. She is on a couple of census as Mother in Law.

I havent been able to find much time to do the family tree, Xmas is just around the corner too!!! I will have to gather up all my little notes and try and remember who went where.

Thats great though, thank you. I now have more names to google. Gran will be sooooo happy.

Hi Ele,
I'm doing my husband's tree RICHARDSON, DUCK, URQUHART
and his GG Grandparents were William Urquhart born Kirkhill, Inverness,Scotland and he married Janet Fraser, born Red Hill, Culloden, Scotland. They sailed from London on "Berar" ship to Wellington New Zealand with their children in 1865. I don't know if this is the same Janet you mentioned.
Take care
Judy
