Title: Stratford, 20th Hussars 1911 Census... -COMPLETED
Post by: greensocks95 on Saturday 22 August 09 04:41 BST (UK)
Good Morning...
i'M searching for my wife's G Grandfather Thomas John Stratford who was posted to Co Kildare, Curragh in 1906, with the 20th Hussars and I'am especially looking for a daughter who his wife had (illegitimately) prior to their marriage, named Maysie Anna.
I have Thomas Stratford's Army records and the list of dependant does not show Maysie Anna.
Can any one tell me when County Kildare's 1911 census will be on line.

Would very much appreciate any help on this...
Thanks very much
Dave.....BC Canada

National Archives website now says Kildare will online late August 2009 (but wouldn't expect it until it actually does appear)-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/about/futureplans.html
Meanwhile, index to civil registrations is online so that you can search for Maysie Anna's birth certificate (you haven't listed her mother's name or her age so it's difficult to help check for you)-

:Thank you for replying...
Maysie Anna, born Aug. 1905, was the illegitimate daughter of Nellie (Boote) STRATFORD.  Maysie was born in New Shoreham Sussex and I have her birth Certificate.  Obviously Nellie never told Thomas, her husband whom she married in 1906 about Maysie Anna.
Thomas was posted to Ireland in 1906 to Curragh Co. Kildare with the 20th Hussars.......I found Thomas's Army records and he had listed all his dependants which were Nellie, Maud Nellie, Olive Norah, Leslie Dick and Sadie Josephine but Maysie Anna was not mentioned......what I'm hoping to do is to seek the 1911 Co. Kildare Census to determin if Maysie Anna was with the family or not.
If she's not there, then I'm slowly breaking down my brick wall and she could very well be my mother in law who came to Canada in 1907 under a different name and was raised by Nellie's older brother Arthur and his wife.
Maysie Anna aka is Hilda May....hope not to confusing.
I'll keep looking for the 1911 census on their web site.
Thanks again for your help
Cheers
Dave

I have a copy of the census form for Clonmel Barracks for 1901 and 1911 and unfortunately the occupants are just recorded by their initials, which seems rather pointless. So even if you locate the census forms for the Curragh they'll probably be the same.

Hi Mick...
Thomas John STRATFORD is my man in the 20th Hussars.......would it be possible for you to scan and e-mail off list? for the Stratford connection...maybe it's too large to attach!
I'm just looking for confirmation of a Maysie Anna, a child, born in 1905 in Brighton Sussex whether she was with this family in 1911.

Thanks for your help...always much appreciated

Mine are for a completely different barracks. I was just trying to point out that you probably won't get the information you require from the Curragh census forms.

the Co. Kildare 1911 census just became available and it looks like Thomas and family are listed by name living in a house of some sort on the base.

The transcript lists : Thomas John Stratford, wife Nellie
and daughters  Maude Nellie  (4 ) and Olive Norah (1)

see : http://www.rootschat.com/links/06zo/

but the census page only seems to include wife and children. The form appears to have been signed by Thomas.

Hi Shane..
Thank you so much....I'am now able to close this chapter on my Nellie Stratford as Nellie, was my wife's Grandmother and Maysie Anna aka Hilda May was my wife's mother who was born illigitimately and was given to Nellie's brother and sister in law to raise...they later immigrated to Canada in 1907.
Possibly Thomas John STRATFORD never new Nellie had a child previous to their marraige.
Thank you very much
Cheers

HI..
Thanks...it's been a long time and I'd forgotten that I'd posted the message....so  after further investigations on STRATFORD. I just could make things matchup, like dates etc so I dropped that research and looked in other avenues and I found out that my mother in law Hilda May was born to a Agnes Kate WHITTINGTON and everything fell into place, dates, grandparents and her father...
So that chapter has closed..
But, thanks very much for responding to my out dated message
Cheers
Dave
