Title: Balfour
Post by: patvp1 on Saturday 22 August 09 02:54 BST (UK)
Looking for Walter Balfour born 1889 Kilmadock Perthshire Scotland.
Parents John Balfour and Isabella Stewart.

The last sighting of Walter was in 1901 census age 12, a bit of a bad lad !! shown as "boy under detention"at Row in Dunbartonshire.

There are two hits shown on Ancestry one being first world war record, but I do not have world wide ancestry.

Can anyone help please.

Hi Pat,

You can search Canadian WWI records free of charge at the Canada Archives website:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/index-e.html

There are two Walter Balfour's of about the right age, one was born in Yorkshire, the other listed his place of birth as Stirling, Scotland and his birthdate as 24 Sep 1888.  You can view the Attestation papers online as well.  I had a quick look for passenger records on FindMyPast and it looks like this Walter Balfour arrived in Canada in 1912 and was destined for Alberta.

Not sure if this is your Walter but have a look and let us know what you think.

Regards,
Lynwen

There is a death registration for Walter Balfour, son of John Balfour and Isabella Stewart at ScotlandsPeople. He died 29 Oct 1942 in Kelvingrove, Glasgow. It indicates he was married to Ann Weir and was a dock labourer.

Hello
Your bad boy Walter Balfour was my Grandfather. Don't know why he was at Rhu when he was 12  ::). He died before I was born. I just registered on here today & was trying to follow some of your links for John Ferguson & Jane McGregor & got completely lost. ??? Where do you fit in?

Hi Jangarr - Good to hear from you. And welcome to Rootschat..great site  ;D
It is so easy to get lost !!! when you start with all this lot  ;).

Looks as tho we have a connection here.

Walter Balfour's mother was Isabella Stewart c1866 she married John Balfour in 1888.  Two sons Walter and Robert.  Isabella was my g/grandmother's sister. So lets see if we have the right one ??
Walter married Ann Weir and had one child (as far as I know) Isabella Stewart Balfour 1923 in Glasgow, she married William Henry Neely and she died in Glasgow in 2009. So have we got the right one ??
If so, have lots of family info you may care to have  ;D.

Looking forward to hearing from you...Patvp

Hi Davie - Only info I have for William Henry Neely is from SP
Born 27 Mar 1917 District - Anderson, Glasgow City, Lanark GRO644/11 0393. No image avail..in other words you would have to apply to SP direct for birth cert.
Sorry about that...all the best ..patvp
