Title: bigamy in Bury - Harry Jones
Post by: spenny on Thursday 20 August 09 15:22 BST (UK)
My Grandma told me her brother Harry Jones commited bigamy and was caught  but i don''t know the year, a few years ago a Andy parkinson put a message on the old pals page in the Bury times looking for info of a harry Jones who commited bigamy and was tried at the radcliffe police court i tried to get in touch with him but the Bury Times had put the wrong email address on his message, I have found a marriage between Harry Jones & Ada Parkinson in Bury in 1928 will there be any record of his court apperance  if so does anyone know where I can find it
thanks
Brenda

I would expect there would be a mention in the bury times but youd need to know the year .then BuryLibrary has old copies on microfilm....was Ada his first(proper) wife?.
Another suggestion would be to put your own advert on the old pals page...also the one in the manchester evening news.Hopefully Andy would see it.
good luck
Jed

Hello Brenda. I have just become a member of this site and found this write-up from you from 2009. I am also looking into the bigamous marriage between Ada Parkinson (my paternal Grandmother) and Harry Jones. I am the sister of Andy Parkinson who you tried to respond to without success. I don't have much information I'm afraid but perhaps together we can delve a bit further. Wait to hear from you. Kind regards, Pam Woodhead

Hi Spenny

There's a report in the Lancashire Evening Post 28th October 1930.

He was sentenced to 4 months imprisonment for bigamously marrying Ada Parkinson in September 1928 describing himself as a widower. He married his first wife in Carlisle in 1921 and had 2 children.
