Hi ,
I'm calling on your assistance again to help find additional information for another soldier. The link below shows the history of this thread.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,398632.0.html
The soldier is Cecil Leon Keys. From his War record, he was born in Bournemouth around 1891 and the 1901 census has him at age 8 with father Thomas and mother May.
He enlisted - twice - in W Australia.
First enlistment papers states - married to Hilda
Second enlistment (one year later) states - not married - NOK friend Rosie Lorna.
I would love to know when he came to WA.
Did Hilda die or did they divorce?
Where does Rosie Lorna fit in?
I have found a NSW death for a Cecil Leon Keys (parents James and Margaret which don't match parents on 1901 census) in 1978 at Katoomba.
Ryerson states age as 85 - so it could be him.
There is also a death for a Hilda Keys on Ryerson - aged 88 in 2001 - which could possibly be a daughter.
I'd like your opinion as to whether this could be the right Cecil, and anything else that could help build a picture of this soldier.

Thanks Annie. That has saved me a trip to the library. I'm sorry it didn't mention any family. I'll probably have to purchase the certificate in order to get close to any descendants.

Hi Kris,
Seems like they both liked the trip between England and Australia - so, they both emmigrated between 1913 and 1916 (when he enlisted) and between 1916 and 1917 they seperated or divorced??

I have to salute you Kris - you're fast ;D
Do you think the Hilda Keys on Ryerson (2001 aged 88)could be a daughter?

Shakel

Yes the birth is there Shakel
Cecil Leon KEYS Mar 1/4 1893 Christchurch Hampshire 2b 674
What happened to him after the war, I just don't know. I am not having any luck at all with any further records for him...........Kris :)

Thanks so much for your help Kris.
I thought he would be an easy one with such an unusual name.

Seemed OK to start with Shakel - found the wife and daughter without any problems but I just can't find a thing on him after the war. No sign of him in the electoral rolls, nothing in SA as to a marriage to 1937, fathering children to 1928 or a death to 1972. Can't see him travelling anywhere either. :-\
-
Nothing is a guarantee - even unusual names.
Thanks Kris - perhaps another drawing won't find its way home :'(

Hi Shakel
By accident I came across your message re Cecil Leon Keys. He is my husbands grandfather. He and Hilda separated after only a few yrs of marrage and she went on to rear her 3 daughters. He had no further contact with the family. He lived in Perth and died in the Sunset Hospital Nedlands on 21st September, 1968. I have a copy of the death certificate. I have found his war record in the National Archives of Australia - 7367862. I am new at trying to use Rootschat however if I can help further you can email me.
