Title: Quegans/Quagans from Offaly
Post by: rquagan on Monday 17 August 09 01:00 BST (UK)
My ancestors, brothers and sister, James, Ellen and Patrick Quegan arrived in Taunton, Massachusetts, America in about 1885.  On their death certificates, their parents are recorded as William Quegan and Ellen Boland.  I see there are Quegans still in Birr, but I cannot make the connection.  On census records I see some William Quegans but not with wife, Ellen.  Can someone help me?  Thank you!  Rosemary Quagan

Hi there,

You don't mention approx dates of birth but there was an Ellen Quegan born to William and Ellen (Boland) resident townland of Forelacka, parish of Kinnitty born 1866 (about 8 miles from Birr). Civil birth record here https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1866/03528/2298527.pdf
Ellen was baptised 9th June 1866 and her godparents were John and Bridget Boland: https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634781#page/89/mode/1up

Would that date of birth fit with what you know?

If it did, there was at least on other Quegan family in Kinnitty and in the same townland (John - father of Sarah, also born 1866).

You will also find the surname in the adjacent parish of Drumcullen and Eglish.

Hope that helps

Tara
