Title: Manchester Library - Next visit Sept 09
Post by: Cancan on Saturday 15 August 09 20:24 BST (UK)
Hi,

I will be visiting Manchester Central Library 2nd September 09

If you need any look ups, and have NAMES, DATES AND PLACES/CHURCH I can take a look for you.  As photocopies are expensive at 50p each I think it best that I just write down info :)

Can also look up any WORKHOUSE Records as long as you have NAMES AND DATES AND NAME OF WORKHOUSE.  Also, Manchester Catherdral records.

A list of all that Manchester Central library holds can be found at their website, click on Local studies and Archives. Scroll down page and click on to where alphabetically named and search the records for what are held at each place and area.

You can post here or PM me, Preferably checks before 1837, as you can obtain Certificates after this date from the GRO!! ;D

PLEASE NOTE; Please PM me, even if you post details (as it will be easier to reply to you)

Thanks Cancan :)

ALSO,  I Visit SOUTHERN CEMETERY  every month, so I can also search and take picture of a grave, if you have names and grave numbers. :)

For a look up request please start a new topic in the LANCASHIRE LOOKUP REQUESTS board giving as much information as you can.

Hello, I am new to this so hope I am doing this correctly.
I read your offer of a look-up and wonder if you can help me please.
I am trying to find a baptism for a John Lye possibly St.Chadds. Rochdale. His parents Thomas Lye and Mary Cass were married there in 1847.  I believe John was born in 1848 but cannot find registration of his birth.  He then had a brother born 1849 named George. James born 1852,Sarah 1854 and William 1858.  John is the only missing child.
I thank you in anticipation of your help.
Irene

Hi Irene:)

Welcome to Rootschat!!

Have taken a look at the records held and there are Baptisms for St Chads, Rochdale, 1848, will check years on either side of this as well for you, just incase, but will start on 1848.

The library has a newer film MFPR2221, so hopefully should be easier to search!!

Speak soon Cancan

Many thanks for your kind offer.  I live in North Wales and it is such a long way to travel.  I have searched the Birth Indexes for this entry but can find no trace, maybe with it being an unusual name is was entered incorrectly. What I cannot understand is that the siblings are all listed and registered in Rochdale District and their parents were married at St.Chadds. (Thomas Lye & Mary Cass) December qtr 1847.
Happy hunting on your trip and again many thanks.
Irene

Please look up a birth of John Wright around 1825?  His parents were Mary Ann Roach and Frazer Wright.  Also, Mary Ann Williams born 1826. Her parents were Mary Ann (?) and John Williams.  Thank you, Bob,(Ribcage) P.S.  How would I find the marriage of Frazer and Mary Ann Roach, when I don't have a date or place? Thanks

Hello,
Your Frazer Wright & Family are on the 1851 census living at St.Andrews Street,Liverpool - occupation painter.
Frazer born Scotland, his wife born Bolton,Lancs. Their eldest child on the census is a son Robert born in Scotland, the other two children listed are James born Liverpool and Mary Ann born Liverpool.
Ages - Frazer 60, Mary Ann 50, Robert 19, James 10 and child Mary Ann 8yrs.
I would look at both Bolton and Scotland for a marriage.
I do hope this is of help to you.
Kind regards
Irene

Thank you for your efforts.  This Frazer you found may be our family, but this Frazer married a Mary Ann Critchley not our Mary Ann Roach.  Do you think it is the same Mary Ann? I hpoe so! Cheers, Bob, (Ribcage)

Hello,
I really could not say but on the 1841 census they are living at 1, Caroline Place,Liverpool and it has two more children on it - Jonathon born 1827 in Ireland and Frazer born 1829 Ireland so a marriage could have taken place there.
Bye for now.

Hello Bob
There is a marriage for Mary Ann Critchley to Fraser Wright 25th October 1819 Canongate,Edinburgh, father William. - you may already have this one. Have you looked for a death of Mary Ann Wright? I suppose Fraser could have remarried another Mary Ann?
