Title: Kinkacre Farm
Post by: braven on Saturday 15 August 09 13:30 BST (UK)
Hi

Does the name Kinkacre Farm, Rutherglen ring any bells with anyone? The date of the reference is 1908. I think the name is correct. I can't find anything on the Alan Godfrey maps of Rutherglen, which should be fairly contemporary. Any help gratefully received

Braven

Hello Braven.

Nice to meet you. I have did a number of googles regarding your farm.

How certain are you that Kinkacre is correct?

I am thinking that Kirkacre might be an option. Kirk being the word used here for church.

Let me know if you have any more info that might help with your search.

Gail :)

There is a street in Rutherglen called Kingsacre Road which is near the area that was Bankhead Farm

Hi

I've looked at the certificates again and it could certainly be Kirkacre Farm. The dates were 1908 and 1913 when the family farmed the land.

I have not heard of a Kirkacre Farm in Rutherglen. Closest I can think of would be Kirkriggs which would have been near Castlemilk Estate at the foot of Cathkin Braes in the modern day area of Blairbeth. I think there are published papers of Castlemilk Estate on the net. Maybe worth a look or check with Rutherglen Museum.
