Title: Please find this man!
Post by: poolqwizrd on Saturday 15 August 09 10:02 BST (UK)
I have been looking for this man from the start and have not found anything. He is James Riley, he is on the 1911 census as born in Dewsbury and has been married to my grt grandma for 1 year, they are aged 30 and 22 the only record of a marriage is James O'Riley in 1909 and ages are 31 and 21. Have tried searching for him and his father Patrick but cant find them in Dewsbury. There is also only one James Riley born in Dewsbury with middle name of Charles around thattime, but he also appears in 1911 census so he can be ruled out.

Can someone please help me!!!

Thanks   Paul

Hi Paul
Try 1881 census Family Search for James Reilly born 1874 Newry Down Co Ireland Father's name is Patrick.

The family seemed to move around and on the 1881 census living in Lancs.
Maybe worth having a look at.

I have ancestors living at 104 Princes Street, Dewsbury on the 1861 census. If you have a old map of Dewsbury you will see it is in the area of Asylum, Dewsbury near to Daw Green
All the best
Chris

Alternatively, my wife's great, great uncle was James RILEY, born Apr-Jun 1878 in the Wakefield district.

His parents were Patrick RILEY, born 1853 in Cavan, Ireland and Harriet VARLEY, born 1853 in Walton, Yorkshire.

James had one sister, Mary Ellen, born 1876 in Wakefield.

1891 CENSUS

Riley, Patrick 36 Cavan, Ireland Head  Horbury  Yorkshire
Riley, Harriett C 38 Sandal, Yorkshire Wife  Horbury  Yorkshire
Riley, James O 13 Wakefield, Yorkshire Son  Horbury  Yorkshire

living at 225 Broad Gate/Lane Horbury

Thanks Pete

I had noticed that family but i have now ruled it out, I have found James Riley, John Riley and Joseph Riley in one household in 1891 and their father died very young, their mother was margaret which makes sence as margaret is still a strong name in that line of the family. everything ive found has them born in dewsbury but no births for them, so still some mystery!

Thanks

Paul

Hi

Thought this may help,
James Riley son of Patrick Riley & Magaret Robie born c1880
Mother remarried after Patricks death to Thomas Williams.
James is on the 1891 census under the name Williams.
On the marriage to Mary Conner he is listed as James O'Riley.

A bit more info but no James  :-\

Possible death for mum:
Free BMD has a death for Margaret Williams 44 yrs - Dewsbury 1895
but 1901 -there is a Thomas Williams married 50 yrs who is a lodger in Ferry Fryston, Yorks
1901 John Riley 23 yrs is a lodger in Dewsbury

Sapper

I had thought that the girls details came from BMD but now realise that Margaret's maiden name is here too so there is more to be discovered ;)

Free BMD has a marriage 1869- Patrick Reilly and Margaret Scally are possible spouses.
1871 has a Patrick and Margaret with son Joseph which would fit.

Free BMD death 1879 Patrick Riley 33 yrs fits with the 1871 census

1891 has a birthplace for Margaret - Castlereagh or possibly Castlerea.

Mmm- so when you said at the outset that you had been looking 'from the start and not found anything', it wasn't exactly true.  ::)
You more than likely have his mother and brothers for definite and depending on when he was born, you may have his father. That would have saved work and time that we did searching for you.
Where does the name 'Robie' come from for Margaret - do you have a child's birth certificate?

Oops-  I beg your pardon ::) ... and you were polite enough not to mention it  ;D

However, since it has now been resurrected and you say you still have a mystery - did you ever check this for Joseph?

Joseph Riley  Sept 1867   Dewsbury   9b   621

Did you get Margaret's name from her marriage to Thomas Williams?

There is someone else on ancestry with this info of the name being robie, as yet it is not checked as i only discovered it a few weeks ago and dont do a lot on it now. This is the problem i have with the rileys, their births never fit in. I think im going to sit down and decide wat certs im going to buy.

Thanks for all ur help
