I am a complete novice so please bear with me. My Grandmother, Belle Rae Mitchell nee Bishop died 23/2/1926 but I can't make out what she died of. On the death certificate it says (I think) Apparently, then the word I can't make out, then the word fit. She was only 30 years old when she died, It would be fantastic if anyone could shed any light on this. Thanks, Maureen. :)

Hi Maureen,
Can you put part of the certificate on here so that we can have a look too?

I'm sorry gengen, I wouldn't know were to start. I am really green with computers. I have tried many times to post pictures on other sites and have never managed it. :-[ Thanks for your ultra quick reply though. :)
-
Ok, never mind. Where you think it says "Apparently" - could it be "Apoplexy"?

Thanks Jen, I will look that up. :)
-
If she had a fit the word before that might be "epileptic".

genjen is right-- Apoplexy or Apoplectic fit. only young for that wasn`t she? its another name for a type of stroke. viktoria,

Well, the image is very small and I cannot get it readable enough really for the forum but here is the required part of the image, some might able to help decipher it.
Glad to be able to help tibby ;D.

Thanks so much for doing that for me Philip. ;D I couldn't get it any better to send to you, infact it was a sheer fluke I managed to send it to you at all. ::) ;D

It really is very small but having seen it I would say that it is not Apoplexy as i suggested earlier. Definitely looks like Apparently ------ Fit.
Still working on it.

Thanks for that Jen. :)

Could it be "apparently uncommon fit"?
-
Nice one kizmiaz, I have been wondering what combination of letters there could be as none appear to cross below the line, uncommon would fit the bill, no pun intended.

Hi Maureen
Is this a Scotlands People image? Looks like it. If so, you can contact SP on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/content/contactus/form.aspx?issue=24 and tell them the section you are having a problem reading and they will then send you an enhanced image via email. Helps to include the GROS ref in your email to them.

Maybe appendicitis abdominal

This is a bit of a long-shot - could it be
'Suppurative...............'
or
'Suppurating.........'
('Suppurate' - to gather pus or matter)
I hope that a request to ScotlandsPeople proves helpful.
Good luck with your research.
