Hi

You have his death before the 1851 census

Deaths Sep 1844
GREENAWAY  Samuel     Epsom  4 85

The 1841 census states Samuel Greenaway was an ag lab born in Surrey (the yes /no born in county on the 1841 census is not always accurate). On the 1841 census adult ages, those over 15, are usually rounded down to the nearest 5 so his age of 35 (if accurate) could actually be anywhere between 35 and 39.

Do you have Samuel's age from his death certificate, or burial? Who were the witnesses at his marriage?

He may or may not be this man

SAMUEL GREENAWAY
Christening:  23 JUN 1801   Saint Nicholas, Guildford, Surrey
Father:  JNO. GREENAWAY
Mother:  ELIZABETH

Hi,

I link to Samuel and Elizabeth, via their daughter Eliza. I also have considered the Guildford connection to be the most likely one, but have not found anything to confirm this view - who knows what other Samuels may be missing from the surviving records.

There is also a John GRINAWAY (born in Guildford, married to a Harriett) at Malden Russett near Chessington in 1851 - HO107/1603 f525 p5. I suspect these may well be the John and Hannah GREENAWAY who married in Epsom in 1837.

Regards,
Jon

Have you got any further with your search?

Out of interest, what is your descent line from Samuel? Mine is Greenaway - Hunt - Bull - Moore. I'm particularly interested as I'm trying to track the source of a family 'weakness' which came from the Hunt side. This develops in the later years. Unfortunately Samuel was killed in a carting accident at quite a young age, so even he had it then it hadn't had time to develop.

Regards,
Jon

Hi Jon

According to their profile, tory (dizzyt1109) hasn't been online here since January 2010.

Hopefully they'll receive email notifications that we have posted replies and come back soon.
