My gt grandfather was Robert William Holmes born 27/12/1902 in Mickley. I know that he married Elizabeth Arrowsmith, but I have no more information on him.
I am unable to find any information about him or his family. I would expect to find his family in/around Mickley in the 1901 census but haven't really found anything.
Is this name familiar to anyone? I have found one record on ancestry (although I am unable to look at it as I don't have a subscription at the minute) and it is for Robert William Holmes born Mar 1903 in Gateshead, Co Durham. Could this be my Robert or is Mickley too far from Gateshead?
Any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Helen

Hi Carol
Would Mickley come under Gateshead? If this is him then I may have to get his birth certificate to find out who his parents were.
Thanks

The 1903 birth could be him. As he was born so late in December, his birth would be registered in January 1903 so would fall in the March qtr
Mickley came under Hexham registration district

I'll post in the Northumberland forum too. I thought it was Durham.
Thanks

Don't re-post I will ask the moderator to move this post to the Northumberland board

As there is some doubt re: his correct birth reg, it may be better to buy a copy of his marriage cert to find his fathers name - particularly as they married in Northumberland
There are a couple of Robert Holmes on the 1911 index born both Durham and Northumberland but the only Robert William was b Yorkshire and was aged 7

Just a thought - are you sure he was actually born in Mickley and didn't just live there after his marriage

Hi Carole
I'm going to ask my gran again to see if her sister has this birth certificate before I go buying it.
It was my gran that told me he was born in Mickley, I don't think they lived there after they married as my gran was unsure where it was.
Thanks

Hi
That's probably better. Post the results on this thread for continuity after you have spoken to your gran. His birth cert but would be great but the marriage cert would also be a start in the right direction
