Title: Anyone know of any Betts

Hi, I'm new to this & I'm trying to trace my Mother's side. My Grandad was Joseph Betts & he was born & lived all his life in Bilston. I believe his ancestors were canal/boat people.

Has anyone heard of them?

have you any other information on your grandfather - year of birth ? Parents names???

If you have his marriage cert that should give father's name and occupation

Thanks Suz, my Grandad is dead so no problems here but thanks for the info.

I'm going to speak to my Mum tomorrow to find out more about my Great Grandmother/Father.  I do know that my Grandad had a brother called George.

there is a Joseph betts age 6 b Bilston in 1901 census - his father was Joseph --but he was a carpenter??? mother sarah and 3 siblings

Thanks Suz, I've heard my Mum talk of a Sarah Betts, I believe it might have been my Grandad's Mother or Grandmother.

there is a Joseph William betts with stepbrother george  -father Joseph William who was a lockkeeper but they were born Walsall

there is another Joseph betts b Bilston -age 3 in 1901 - father Abraham was a canal oatman - all of the family were b Bilston -but there is no brother gearge

this is the "other" Joseph

Joseph Betts Head M 46 carpenter Middlesex
Sarah wife 47 nottingham
Edward son 13 errand boy
Sarah daughter 12
Martha daughter 9
JOSEPH son 6
children all b bilston
RG13 2691 72 13

in 1911 Joseph (head od amily) was a Boat builder
Edward was an ironworkers helper
Joseph was a clerk

I rhink you need to talk to your Mum -see if she has their marriage cert

neither of these families have a son george????
