Title: Ancestry down again?
Post by: Mike Baldock on Wednesday 12 August 09 13:30 BST (UK)
Can't log on to Ancestry today - and now it's not even recognising my email!

Anyone else experiencing problems?

Mike

lol@Chutzpah! That was very informative of them!

Same for me. I guess they're updating the website or something. They should put up an explanation. Unless it's a Denial of Service attack, like the one that happened to Twitter and Facebook last week. Ancestry don't have any Russian blogger's ancestors in the censuses do they?  ;D

If it was a DoS attack we wouldn't be able to load the site.

I was using it last night and the search kept going extremely slow at times. It's frustrating because I wanted to do some quick searching in my lunch break to continue my research from last night.

They should at least have a blog which they update with service issues rather than keeping us guessing.

I agree Chutzpah. Back in the days when I had a pay as you go sub. I only had a couple of days left before it expired, lots of credits, and the blumin' site went on a go-slow for the whole evening that I had intended to do my searching on. Was very cross and asked for some money back. Can't remember if I got it or not, but I suspect not!

Glad I thought to check on here! It doesn't recognise my email address, user name or login. I was logged in OK earlier today, but no access now.

If I wasn't off out it would have been my pleasure.  ;D

However I will now have to switch off and I bet I'll not be able to get back on. Will let you know when I get back unless it is sorted.

Thank goodness that I checked on here. Not to say that I’m pleased to hear that everyone else is suffering though.
Very frustrating, I wanted to check a death before I ordered a certificate, pretty sure that FreeBMD has the wrong name and page number but no image available there.

I arrived home from work 45 mins ago, checked e-mails, found a message from a contact through Ancestry, tried to connect to both .com and co.uk, boiled the kettle, ate my lunch and still wasn't connected.  Thought I'd try here and hey-ho what did I find!  At least I know fault not with my pc.

Where's the blog? I spent ages looking for one.

Ancestry never makes anything easy!

Their blog is at: http://blogs.ancestry.com/ancestry/

The reference to today's update is buried in the comments for the topic Updates to the enhanced image page.

Wow, all the way down there!

Must say, their "new search" is woeful. I always use the old one. Using the new one I couldn't even find half of my immediate family in searches!
