I am looking for help in tracing david and sarah mckenzie nee dunbar. Searching here is somewhat of a long shot as I have no documentation that indicates that they indeed emigrate to New Zealand. I have both of them on the 1851 1861 and 1871 censuses in Scotland but after that I can find nothing of them at all. Their son Alexander was married in 1879 and on his marriage cert the occupation of his father is given as farmer
I know that five of sarah,s siblings emigrated to new zealand they were agnes, catherine (known as kate ) isabella david and alexander
despite having carried out a number of searches on both scottish and english censuses and for death certs for both david and sarah I have been unable to trace either of them and I am now wondering if they may have emigrared to join sarah,s siblings. I know this is a long shot but any help or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated
Alex.

Hi Alex :)
Unfortunately you didn't give us the birth years for David and Sarah, however I see that this information was contained in your other thread on the Scotland board.
David McKENZIE - bc 1827 (aged 34 - 1861 SCT census)
Sarah McKENZIE - born 1824 (per DUNBAR family history link)
Searching the (online) NZ Death index, ("McKENZIE / MacKENZIE") I can find only these 3 listings. ???
1909 - McKENZIE - David - 84 years (bc 1825)
1886 - McKENZIE - David - 55 years (bc 1831)
1912 - McKENZIE - Sarah - 92 years (bc 1820)

The index does not state where these deaths were registered :
A name search of passenger lists failed to find a David or Sarah McKENZIE who matched this couple.

Hi Lu, my search in New Zealand was a bit of a long shot as I said before I do not have any documentation that they did emigrate to there, only the thought that they might have joined sarah,s siblings. Given that you found no trace of them on the ships passenger lists is that conclusive prove that they did not emigrate to New Zealand?

Hi again Alex
No, sadly, it's not conclusive proof.
As mentioned, I used a "name" search (surname/christian names) - on two of the NZ passenger list sites, which have this facility. The other option available, is to trawl through various years / various ports of arrival. ::) [You'll find the passenger list sites in the Resources section of this board.]
It must be borne in mind, that not ALL passenger lists have survived ... and some lists are incomplete. And it's fair to say that those who made their way here, as part of a New Zealand Government (or other organised) Immigration scheme, are better documented.
A death index search however will generally "flush out" those who, for whatever reason, don't appear in passenger listings.

Hi Alan, the date of david,s death puts him exactly in the right age group from what I know from other documentation however I have sarah,s birth as 1824 so that would seem to preclude her however any other info which could be found out about this pair would be greatly appreciated just to make sure that they are def not them
thanks again for your help and interest, best regards
Alex
