Hi
Can anyone lay claim to the above and help me to fill in some blanks. All I have is:
Mary Hannah Judith Harrison (b1898 Leic but her family were from the Birmingham area) m William Sephton 1916 (he died shortly after the death of his son) Mary was 'adopted' by a family called Lightfoot. They were I gather quite well to do and had either a retail or wholesale business.
They had 2 sons William b 1916 who died as a child and
Bertram (Bert) b 31.12.1922 died 2000 in Coventry.
Bert married and had a child.
Does anyone recognise them?
Many thanks

In case there is a connection - one Sephton family were well known canal boat builders for several generations at Hawkesbury Junction, on the north side of Coventry.

Boatyard at Sutton Stop see - http://findarticles.com/p/news-articles/coventry-evening-telegraph-england/mi_7969/is_1999_May_1/preserving-canal-heritage-council-sephtons/ai_n32596816/
Sephton Drive is in that area of Longford.
Also the name was big in the Bedworth area, there are mentions going back at least to the mid 1800s and still families of that name there today.

1881 shows several Sephton families involved with the canals in that area
at Hawksbury Stop,Greyhound Inn,
William SEPHTON/M/30/BOat Builder & Publican (Foleshill,Warwick ) with wife &
5 ch & Moth/in /law W.
at Green Lane,
Francis SEPHTON/M/57/Boat Builder & Publican (Foleshill, Warwick) with wife ,
5 ch.Stepson & his wife. incl---
James SEPHTON/U/20/Boat Builder, (Foleshill, Warwick)

Andrew SEPHTON/M/26/Boat Builder (Foleshill, Warwick) with wife

Presume you mean the Boat Pub, John?
-
:-[ yes
-
I can confirm that the Sephton Family did run the Boat Inn On Blackhorse Rd. My name is also Sephton and I am in some way related to them. I remember visiting there yearly as a child. My father Hugh edward was the son of Edward Sephton who I believe also ran another Pub.. (name escapes me) He had a sister Joan Sephton who died around 1980 and an Aunt Lizzie who was a retired school teacher and died at the age of 92 I believe it was around 1975-76. I have the Sephton Family bible at home which was passed down to me and that has a incomplete list in the back of All sephtons in the Bedworth/Coventry area born and when they died. I believe the only desendants left are myself and my son John who resides in london. If there is any other Info I can hel with I will try and assist.

Thanks Al

Just in case the line from the Greyhound is not the one you are looking for, I too am a Sephton, but my Sephtons came from the south and were not anything to do with the boats, my grandfather was william who married Violet Elizabeth, he had a sister Annie and they all lived in the Paradise area of Coventry, it is proving tough but happy to collaborate.

I have connections to the Sephton Boatbuilding family and have a large family tree, (some of which needs verification) but I would be happy to share and compare information. I also have connections to the Sephton's of Paradise , Coventry and would like to learn a little more about that side of my family.

does any of your sephton,s originate from up north?
-
Hello kimberlynn,
It depends upon what you mean by 'up North'. The Sephton boatbuilding family of Foleshill originates from Misterton in North Nottinghamshire and came to Foleshill via Sharlow on the Derbyshire/Leicestershire boarder.
I am aware that there is another group of Sephtons from around Lancashire. They are probably named after the Sefton area of Liverpool. Some of them migrated into the West Midlands, but I have never managed to find a connection between them and the Nottingham/Shardlow/Foleshill clan.
warm regards,
Kevin.
-
thanks for the reply! yes- i did mean lancashire / cheshire i had a feeling they were not connected although we had some go to the west midlands too, apparently most of the sephtons are not connected to "sefton" the place - anyway it was just a thought, thanks so much, k.
-
The Sephton's are well known in the Blackhorse Rd area, the land where 100's of new houses have recently been built belonged to them. In fact one of the roads is called Sephton Drive!
I used to work with a lad who's Mother is a Sephton. His name is Mark Brooks, sorry I have no contact details for him.

Apologies all,
I placedinformation about the Sephton Family Bible and then forgot to reply. If anyone needs a copy I can certainly scan and send as it has a list in the back (Although some info is incomplete of siphons born and dead going back to the 1850's The last entry I saw on this was about faith rally and I am pretty sure she was my great great Grandmother. Now i have reconnected with the site I would like to help/assist those who are researching their Sephton Family tree
thanks
