I am looking into the family history of my husbands late grandfather , Arthur William Allen who was born in Guernsey in 1911 and died in Guernsey in 2006, he was married to Doris Edith Allen , nee Stacey , they had 2 children Owen and Barbara, who still live on the Island , if you can help with any info about Arthurs family it would be of great help

From the bit of info you've given and from what I've seen  would these be his parents

William Henry Allen bn circa 1876 St Peter Port Guernsey

Annette May Ogier bn circa 1876 St Andrew Guernsey

If so are you wanting to take this two back in time to se who there family members were?

Hello, Thank you for the information given , it confirms what my husband had thought. He thought that he was related to the ogiers through his great grandma.Any other info would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time in this matter.

This is William Henry Allen in the 1901 census with his parents in Guernsey

Robert N Allen 1848 Eng Florist, Gardener  Fruiterer & Seedsman

Adelina Allen 1848 France Florist Saleswoman
William H Allen 1876 St Peter Port Fruit Grower
Elizabeth Allen 1878 ""      ""
Thomas Allen 1881       ""
Charles allen 1882      ""


So with this info you can at least find the family on the free to search 1881 census at the following website

It looks like the middle initial of  N as I first saw it for Robert could be a H but thats just a small matter


Now here is the 1891 census for the Allen family

Robert 43 Florist bn Eng
Adelina 43 bn France (British Subject)
William 15
Elizabeth 14
Thomas 11
Charles 9
Elizabeth Templeman 73 Widow shown as Mother in law bn England

This is the most probable Ogier family that Annette belongs to


1901 census for St Andrews Guernsey

Nicholas 61 bn Guernsey occ Publican
Bet* 63 bn Guernsey
Nicholas 35   ""      occ Farmer
Elizabeth 32  ""
Charles 29     ""
Rosa M 27   ""
Annette 25  ""
Arthur 23  ""
Dora 18   ""


All the above are noted as children of Nicholas and Bet* and all of them are still single



1891 census is much the same as above census except there is a child called Frederick age 10 in the list of children.

1881 again you can use the previous mentioned website.
