This sort of thing usually happens following hardware and/or software changes.

I suffered a similar experience last year when I was daft enough to purchase some unbranded memory to upgrade my laptop. Reverting to the previous SODIMM solved the problem.

If you haven't made any changes might something have happened to loosen internal hardware contacts? That is the sort of thing to check out.

That brings back memories.  I had a PC which was forever crashing, and displaying that screen.

The bad news is, I never did find out what was causing it, and eventually got a new PC.

But I'm no expert.

Try this......

Switch on the computer, and keep jabbing at the F8 key periodically (but don't hold it down).

Eventually, you will see some choices come up - choose "Use last known good settings".

If that fails, do the same again, and choose "Safe Mode", which loads minimal drivers.  If this works, you should see Windows open in a lower resolution format, with the words "Safe Mode" in the corners.  If this happens, close Windows again, and see if it starts normally now.

If neither of these things happen, you will need to find your original Windows install disk, and choose "Repair" when it starts up.

P.S. Looks like the culprit could be Windows Live - see http://www.help2go.com/forum/computer-help/102599-reboot-loop-3.html

Go into Safe Mode and uninstall it.

If you haven't done so, it might pay to defrag your pc as well. Because of the awful file structure on Windows, if it opens any files or folders it will write any extra information and put it any where it can on the hard drive. Hence your hard drive becomes more and more "fragmented". By defragging it Windows sorts all the data back into order. If it hasn't been done for a long time the pc will run faster and boot up quicker as well, although the first time might take a few hours to do. :-\

Hi

Has above use the f8 key and there will be a choice of 3 in a menu list using arrow key and choose the first Safe mode. once the safemode desktop comes up. go to the start menu-click Progams-Accessories-system tools and last system restore and follow on screen instructions. Choose a date before the blue srceen (Ie 1 week) There maybe a dialog box that come up straight away on pressing F8 to do this ie system restore depending on which widows system you use.

If your blue page comes back-pull your mains wire male plug out of the wall before windows reacts(Cut the power source )- Leave the computer a good five minutes!!!(Have a cupa) then restart there will be loads of funny goings on with blue pages as windows re configurates and cleans your hard dist! and restarts

Your blue page is an healthy page to see! it is the start of Window cleaning the hard disc program! so let it do its stuff! and leave it alone to run and either it restarts or comes back to to the normal widows desktop screen. The problem lies in Add-ons- Temp internet pages that need deleting in internet option entered through the conrol panel, also reset defaults and setting to factory original settings again in internet options to menu in the dialog box click advances & programs.  Use a good security Ie Norton/Mcafee etc bought from a computor store not download free off the internet or payed for ones. Update windows security aswell-See Win updates. Run the Blue window clean hard drive disc by cutting it power! once a week!! difference is your doing it not the computer.

I have the feeling that it will be a long wait.  When you see the screen pictured above, the computer will have done a memory dump and halted  :o

Yes, the clue is in the wording "Windows has shut down" in the first line on the blue screen  :)

It is not a good idea to cut the power rather than close down properly. That is the way to introduce all sorts of fragmentation, duff registry entries and other Windows errors.

The only time one should pull the plug is when all else has failed. On restart the first job should be to check the hard drive, run registry cleaner(s) and defragment the drive.

Thats what I end up doing because all the other methods don't work, on start up I am presented with a black screen with options of what to do.

Otherwise known as safe mode (menu), as opposed to normal mode.

Don't you like those really helpful bits of advice at the bottom of a Blue Screen of Death where says, "Please contact your Administrator or Technical Support Group for further assistance."  Like every household has one of those or may be they should come free with every copy of Windows.

This has nothing to do with defragmenting the hard drive.  Defragmenting the hard drive may help with disk access times but that is about all it does.  The type of error being reported here is a memory violation problem caused by a hardware/software conflict of some kind.  You will need to do a bit of research about:

fssfltr_tdi.sys

to find out whether there is a fix for this problem.

I already did - see my original reply.  It's connected to the parental control part of Windows Live.  Uninstalling the program may fix it.
